Hi-- I am new here. I have suffered from depressive episodes for many years, but was only diagnosed with bipolar ii last week. I was hospitalized for suicidal ideation and after observing my mood changes during the hospital stay, the pdoc started me on lithium. I am very afraid of the med, but more afraid of the dark depression I slip in and out of. Now I don't feel depressed but I also don't feel anything else. Just blah.

Hello Cloudylia: Welcome to PC! PC is a great place to gain support as well as to obtain information regarding mental health concerns. There are many caring members here. Having struggled with depression & anxiety, among other conditions, for many years, I can relate to what you wrote. I've never been on Lithium. But, from reading her books, I know that Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison credited it with saving her life. If you haven't read any of her books, I recommend them. There are, of course, other med's available for the treatment of Bipolar depression. Sometimes it can take a while to find the right one. I send warm thoughts your way.

Welcome. I feel like lithium saved my life. It also dulled me a lot and I needed an antidepressant to get me back to normal. Make sure you take lithium with meals. It can tear up your stomach.
