I experienced something very strange last night that was somewhat disconcerting.

It felt like I was half asleep and half awake. I couldn't move. I was laying on my back and it felt like I was falling. If I would have fought the feeling I think I would have found it very distressing. It was very real. Then it felt like I was floating above my body, and it made me worried because I thought it would wake my husband up and freak him out.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

It was really weird.

Once, while I was manic, I took a trip in the clouds. I was laying in bed awake and I don't recall falling asleep but I kept going in and out of sleep, still dreaming this even while awake. I thought I had been in the clouds for hours but when I looked at the clock only about 10 mins had passed. It was as real as I was actually in the clouds and when I wrote about it the next day, I could even describe how they felt.

Also, I'm sorry your experience was so distressing.

Sleep paralysis. I used to get it all the time. I still get it occasionally, but not so much anymore, usually only if I'm on my back. It's terrifying. Try sleeping on your side. That's what's worked for me.

Oh man, the loud noises/screaming in your ears ones are terrifying. I once had one which sounded like somebody was holding a smoke alarm up to a megaphone and put it right up against my ear. I still had a ringing in my ear when I woke up. Thought I was going to be deaf after that, but a few minutes later I was okay.
