I've noticed a change in my appetite lately, and I first thought it was the depression, but I'm getting better and still not eating. Then I remembered that I started Lamictal on Friday and it started around that time. My appetite has changed drastically to the point that im either not hungry most of the day or just dont feel like eating. Now I know it's not healthy to not eat, but because I've lost a few pounds, I'm not complaining. Plus all the other drugs over the years have caused me to gain so much, part of me wants to enjoy the ride while I can. Yet I feel somewhat guilty since it's unhealthy to not eat.

I honestly don't remember having this reaction to Lamictal before, but I felt like a lab rat then with so many medication adjustments I can barely remember. It was about ten years ago anyway..

Anyone else have a change in appetite/weight with Lamictal?

I would go back to your doctor about this, because it might become dangerous for you if you end up not eating for the sake of your medication.

Definitely keep a close eye on your health.

The human body is designed to handle fasts, you will likely go into deep ketosis and wind up burning a lot of fat, which might make you feel good.

However micronutrients can only be stored in limited amounts, and when they run out, it spells big trouble. Potassium comes to mind, if that starts running low you will have muscle and heart problems.

So I definitely recommend taking supplements if you can stomach them.

Otherwise you should be alright adjusting to an initial side effect for a couple weeks. But I also agree to give you pdoc a heads up in case the side effect does not go away soon.

What? I figured I'm eating like a cow is because of the Lamictal. Something is making me hungry.

Eh I worry more when a med makes me continuously eat a bazillion calories. Much more detrimental in my opinion
Unless you are, already underweight you will be fine and it will level off
The meds that make you hungry never level off and gaining tons of weight is not healthy

If anything please try protein/vitamin replacement shakes like ensure or boost. I've suffered from eating disorders for years and when I'm doing bad I make sure I get at least 2 of those down a day. And they won't make us gain weight!

Dx: BP2, PTSD, bulimia/anorexia
Risperdal 4mg
Trileptal 300mgs
Buspar 45mgs
Ativan 1mg PRN
Vyvance 70mgs PRN

Eh...it only lasted a week. When I went up to 50mg my appetite came back, just not as aggressive as it was in the past. But I'll take it.
