I'm not sure.. are they both related, , as I say.. I've been diagnosed as everything under the sun... I thought there was a blood test.. I'm sure both Stephen Fry and Kerry Ketona said they had blood tests to confirm they had Bipolar, my Doctor has now put me on Prozac and Diazepam. I've become friends with two Psychiatric Nurses.. both have said the same thing.. I AM BIPOLAR.. and when they heard about the meds I was on, they said no wonder I'm even more paranoid than I was before...eek

Sorry, no blood tests for bipolar. It takes a psychiatric assessment to diagnose.

Are you seeing a psychiatrist? I'm asking because prozac without a mood stabilizer often will cause mania and can make things worse. Usually some kind of mood stabilizer is needed along with any antidepressant and also is just a standard part of drug therapy if you are taking meds. Diazepam will calm you down but it is not a mood stabilizer.

Physical proof is a good question. If bipolar is truly a malfunction of the GABA receptors in the brain can they not verify that through some kind of brain scan? Just a thought.

Well, I know in terms of brain waves that they both have an instability for what type of brain wave is being produced. Like, without going into much science, there are three bands of beta waves: low beta, beta, and hi-beta. An instability in those waves would really mess with you. Naturally lower waves is found in ADHD, some types of depression, and insomnia, while higher waves are found in other types of depression and anxiety. I'm not sure about the neurotransmitters at all though...
