I guess they have to come up with some words to describe Bipolar, but it seems to me that it's so much more than a problem with moods. Being in an overly good mood doesn't drive us to reckless decisions and terribly risky behavior. Being in a blue mood doesn't drive us to the permanent solution to the temporary problem.
No, this seems to be about much more than mere moods. I wish people could understand this. I wish I could understand this. |

The pdoc who writes the www.psycheduction.org blog calls it a disorder of mood and energy. I always have liked that definition a lot.

I agree! Even neurotypical people get mood swings. When they hear "mood disorder" they think "oh yeah, I go through that too! No big deal." It's just so much more than that...

I guess it all depends on how you define "mood." I've read that it is defined as a temporary emotional state. Anyone have a better definition?

The normal person doesn't get bipolar not even my husband understands or tries to understand the disease of bipolar is a serious one people need to be more understanding especially the people who love you supposedly but I don't think they will ever understand nobody understand unless they are bipolar too! Us bipolar need to stick together there's a lot more to a bipolar person than just feeing up and down it makes life hard and it's hard to function sometimes even getting out of bed is a huge deal

I guess it had to be called something simple in order to get billing and insurance to do their fricking work. But no, it's much more than just moods. Anybody can have a mood swing but it doesn't end up with them in the hospital, jail, or dead.
