My increase in Lithium made me thirsty and want to pee a lot. No sexual side effects that I had noticed, interesting though, I'll be more aware.

I got so foggy on my highest dose. I was getting confused and forgetting really basic things. I went into whole foods one evening and realized ten minutes in that I didn't have my car keys. I went outside to see if I left them in the car, and sure enough I left the car RUNNING

My doctor started me on 600 mg a week ago. So far I feel tired and need to drink a lot of water..also pee a lot but that's it..She may up me to 900 mg after I get my blood work done tomorrow depending on my levels..another thing to remember is you need to stay hydrated on lithium or your salt levels will be out of balance with your potassium levels etc. So 8 8 0z glasses of water a day maybe more if you are in a dry area..eat low carb and exercise a few times a week as well. Doing this benefits you while taking the drug..

I had horrible side affects! I swelled everywhere and it did more damage to my Thyroid. I already have Hypothyroidism, and my numbers are still off and I've been off of it since July!

I'm on 1500 mg and the shakiness is awful. Hang in there. There are things they can give you for the side effects.

Lithium made me so weak I could barely walk without feeling like I was going to die or faint, and that was only on 300mg. Needless to say it didn't work out for me.
I hope the side effects you are experiencing go away soon.

Been on it since 2012. Started out on 900 to control mania. Then tried 1800 to help with depression it didn't. Went back to 900 (took AD for depression).
Thirsty a lot. Cognitive dysfunction as furiousfever pointed out. Weight gain. I gain almost forty lbs. No sexual side effects at all!! My libido is off the chain on just Lithium Sent from iPhone 6 Plus using Tapatalk

I'm on a fairly low dose of Lithium at 600mg per day. I took it almost 20yrs ago for the first time and remember the terrible memory problems. I worked as a crane operator and I had to remember hundreds of sets of numbers through the day. If I didn't write them down when the guy was explaining them to me, they were lost. I've not experienced any sexual dysfunction on these drugs. Keep in mind whatever side effect you are having may lessen or go away in time.
I had to renew my CDL back then and stupidly put down I was taking Lithium. About 6 weeks later I got a notice from the DMV that my license was suspended for a year for taking a banned substance! I quit the Lithium immediately. Oh, I was pissed...thinking here I am trying to address an issue and they're sticking it to me. But that was that...they wouldn't allow me to appeal, and I had to ride out the year suspension. Feck 'em...I drove anyway. NEVER tell the truth on government forms. Started Lithium again 4yrs ago, and have had no real problems with it besides a slight tremor in my right hand. Its not noticable unless I hold out my phone to show someone a picture. I drink a ton of water every day, so I've not experienced any toxicity that way. I did however by taking Advil (ibuprofen). I was taking it 3-4 times per day as directed by my doctor for a shoulder injury. Shortly after beginning this drug I started getting back aches. They got so bad over a 1-2 month period it felt like my back may spasm. About that time I read that ibuprofen blocks the timely excretion of the spent Lithium...leading to toxicity...that resulted in kidney pain that manifested itself as back pain. The pain went away and stayed away when I quit the Advil. My Lithium 600mg and Lamictal 200mg regimen saves my bacon, and this time I haven't had any memory issues. These aren't big doses comparatively speaking, but they do what they're supposed to do with few (I didin't say none) side effects. My big issues of unbelievable spending and hypomania just kinda dissolved after a couple months on this combo. I'll put up with the side effects before I return to my previous behavior, no two ways about it! |
