1) One woman who is like 105 is involved in her church, a women's group, helping with community needs, schedules meetups to discuss current events, and spends tons of time with friends. In the study, this was very common among people who live to be a hundred. Very involved, not afraid to step out. It also said many smoked, many drank a shot of whiskey every night, but most were more involved in social activities than the average person. 2) They exercise more (that's a given) 3) They do more brain stimulating activities like painting, crossword puzzles, etc 4) Most had a very good sense of humor (laughter is medicine) 5) Lower levels of stress 6) a healthy body weight 7) Apparently it said centurians pop pills with caution and are more reluctant than the average person to take prescription meds (well that sucks for me, but oh well) 8) Having a scheduled, routine every day, even after retirement. (I suck at this too) 9) They sleep longer than the average person. ---And for the record, it's been shown that lithium can actually help you live longer if it doesn't destroy your insides that is, and long term lithium use prevents alzheimers and dementia.
Thanks for this!

On a bipolar forum the thought of living this long has sent collective shivers of fear down many users backs including my own!
Haha jk. Good info

Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I agree. It scares me to think of living that long.

Me neither. With all my ailments, living beyond about 75 doesn't sound good. And that's without bipolar.

Well I haven't lived that long of a life technically with my DID, so I'd love to live to 100 so we can integrate into one.

My husband and I were talking about this the other night. I doubt I'm going to live that long.

I had a patient once who was 107. She lived in the nursing home b/c at 100 she was falling at home and her 80 year old son couldn't pick her up. Every day she got up, dressed herself, put on a full face of make-up (wouldn't leave her room without it), got herself to meals, etc. I got to know her when she experienced her first moderately serious illness at 106 and spent a couple days in the hospital before insisting on returning to the nursing home where she immediately refused to use oxygen, accepted help for about 3 days and was herself by the end of a week. She was amazing. She was 108 the last I heard of her.

See, that's amazing. I would love to live a long life. Actually, a long, fulfilled life.
