Ok, I'm at my wits in with sleep. I've been taking Clonidine (old blood pressure med from the 50's for blood pressure management, but they found out it didn't work for that but would cause drowsiness). I take it along with 200mg of Diphenhydramine HCl (Benadryl). Come to find out that can cause major metabolism issues and could be contributing to my weight issues. My pdoc says it's not healthy and I've tried Ambien, etc in the past (don't work). So, she decided for me to try Temazepam (Benzo just for sleep). It's supposed to be strong so she said to get in bed first before taking it. I WAS UP ALL NIGHT WITH ANXIETY and felt like I drank a pot of coffee. She is now prescribing Belsomra.

Anybody else have atypical reactions for medications that should make you drowsy or knock you out. It's like none of it works, including muscle relaxers. I'm wide awake and agitated. I also have lots of allergies to meds (Trazadone, Valium, Klonopin, etc)! Is this a BP thing?

Sorry to hear of your troubles! I hope you find something that works for you quickly! I haven't had any problems with Hydroxyzine that I take at night to help me sleep, but everyone is different. Let us know if you find that "magic pill" for you!

I'm finally sleeping good on my nite meds.
I've had loads of med changes and sleeping problems in the past.

Yes, it's new. It's like Ambien but works differently. It's brand new on the market. I got a free 10 day sample with an online coupon (RX required obviously). It will be $50 a month w/insurance if it works. I asked if there will be a generic coming out, and the pharmacist said not for a long time since it's so new. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Clozaril knocks me out entirely. Every time I get used to a dose of the medicine, we increase it and I end up with slurred speech and sleeping every opportunity I can.

When I've had severe insomnia in the past, nothing would work. My pdoc would keep increasing my Klonapin to no avail.

I hope you find some rest soon!

Clozail was the first atypical antipsychotic. It is high potency and is widely known as one of the best antipsychotics, even for those who are treatment resistant. However, because of the risk of a rare auto immune disorder (that can result in death if not seen), you must have blood drawn weekly for 6 months, biweekly for 6 months, and then once per month for as long as you are taking the med. That part is a pain in the ***.

my combo is simple but working the best I have in months ... benadryl, trazadone , and a pinch of xanex .... but even this fails if I miss my schedule .... I consistently get five hours at a time .... and of course my cpap ....

Chronic insomnia all my life here..

Belsomra is pretty much the same as Ambien or Lunesta etc ( regardless of there cute commercial cats) They are all in the class of hypnotic sleep meds.

Everyone reacts diffently ..Hope it works well for you

The problem I usually have with sleep medications and most that I take is that they have no effect on me at all.

Sooooo, I took my first dose of the Belsomra. No sleep!!! At least it wasn't as bad as the Temazepam from the previous night! I not only didn't sleep but had panic/anxiety! I'm upping again tonight from 10mg to 15mg. I think 20mg is the max amount. I'm just so frustrated, sad, and blah. I NEED my sleep!!! I'm nutty without it!
