At my last pdoc visit she put me on Cogentin to counteract some of the trembling I have been having. Has anybody else had any luck, or issues, with this? I've read up on this on some of the med sites, and it doesn't appear to have any other problems besides the ones I already have (like dry mouth and increased thirst).

Otherwise I've kept my meds pretty much the same except for decreasing the Vistaril and Thorazine to bedtime. I seem to be stable for the time being, so that's a good thing. I haven't been IP since July which my pdoc was okay with. I still have another EKG because of the Thorazine but it's more a precaution on my pdoc's part.

I take 1mg of congentin a day, split in half. Seems to really help my restlessness. I don't have side effects from it. Good luck!

I take it twice a day. It has not helped with my tremors at all, but it does reduce my baseline anxiety.

Side effects were: becoming irregular, and developing more tremors.
Thanks for this!

I have taken it for movement disorders caused by APs two different times. Both times it helped the movement disorder somewhat although I needed additional meds both times as well. I don't remember side effects the first time; the 2nd time I had very dry mouth (I may have been on more the 2nd time). The first time I think I took it about 2 months until the movement disorder had passed; the more recent time I took it 2-3 months I think. Because I get movement disorders very easily with APs I was just given a script for it when I started this summer's failed AP and then I failed to realize that I had a movement disorder for about 3 weeks of being in discomfort. I eventually had to go off that AP b/c the movement disorder got worse and there was a risk of tardive dyskinesia. Had I stayed on the AP I would have taken cogentin long-term. I assume that it will be readily offered with clozaril if needed given my history.

Congrats on your stability since July. Good luck with the Cogentin.... I don't know anything about it so can't contribute there.

Cogentin has always worked when I got akathesia from Haldol(for Tourette's Syndrome) and then, lithium. Sometimes I take it because it's an H1 antagonist and it helps me sleep, as well as reducing my tics but that's just me experimenting on myself. I'm a mad scientist. Or Doc Brown in 'Back To The Future'.

The evil Cogentin. I took it to counteract Abilify side effects, for about four years. I had to get off of it because of severe memory issues. It almost caused me to lose my job. Turns out that I no longer had akathisia when I stopped the Cogentin. If I recall, I took 2mg a day.
