Has anyone had to meet with a social worker before?

I have an appointment with mine tomorrow morning and I'm not sure what to expect.

(I have to meet with this person because I overdosed. And right now I'm on a 90 day hold.)

No, sorry. Idk how that works. They didn't do much either time I ODd.

Good luck!

They don't do that in my state for od either
Outside of the hospital I saw a s.w. for iop
I think they usually start by gaining your whole background/history on many things. Then she will probably ask how are you now are you safe
is your daughter safe/how is she
are you being compliant ect

When I was IP the social worker assigned to me only handled things like living arrangements and health insurance issues. At the time I was on the verge of homelessness and uninsured. I don't know what strings she pulled but I have never received a bill from the hospital. I vaguely remember being told about a charity program for low income patients that basically absolved them of paying for their stay. Needless to say I benefited greatly because I spent a full week IP. I'd hate to see the bill for that.

I hate this. I hate myself! What was I thinking?! Obviously I wasn't thinking at all. I freaked everyone out. I ruined new years. Why do I always have to ruin everything. Besides the social worker I have to deal with AODA crap. Because, you know, I'm not busy enough as is. I have a nice life, with a loving family and a job I actually like.
Okay, just BOO HOO.

And if I thought I was foggy before I was wrong. I'm just not going to write anymore.

You might like this person, and they might be able to offer you unexpected assistance. My best friend is a social worker, and he helps people every day.

Don't be so hard on yourself. What's done is done. No reason to dwell on it. The social worker will be there to help you going forward *hugs*

Well, that was really easy. He just asked me about my support group, meds, diagnosis. He didn't say anything about AODA, so I guess I don't have to do that. Yea!

I'm glad it turned out positive, most social workers are pretty nice.
What's AODA?
Does being on a 90 day hold mean you have to take your meds for 90 days or more than just that? Don't know why I worry about that. Here you can seriously try to off yourself get a three day hospitalizations then out even if your homeless.

AODA = Alcohol and other drug abuse. I thought I'd get interviewed for that because I drank wine that night, and my roommate in the hospital drank beer the night she ODed and has to do that program.

After 90 days my hold will be over. Just during that time I have follow all the rules.

Was nervously following the posts hoping to find out that it was OK eventually with the social worker

I'm a last year social work student and I'm so disappointed to read mostly bad experiences from other people about social workers ^_^. I guess that mostly people would share their negative experience and the positive people don't share they just get on with their lives..

Glad it went ok, hope u be well

In my state, they don't do any of that (or at least they didn't way back when) when it's a typical OD. When I OD'd the last time, I actually work up in the park the next morning after taking a whole bottle of xanax with lots of liquor. I happened to wake up (have no idea how), so I drove home that morning and was arrested for a DWI. Now, that was a nightmare!

Here if you don't have a home to go back to after being discharged they'll set you up with a place to go.

Now, that's nice! Out of all you've mentioned about court and a social worker, that is the best news for the mentally ill. Good for them!

You took a whole bottle of Xanax trying to die, but someone is still writing a prescription for Xanax for you.
Gotta love some of the doctors out there.....

Please take care of yourself.
