I take Depakote and Lithium - neither bother me but perhaps I am lucky. I have been on Depakote for about 8 months now and it seems to work well but I have had a few episodes here and there. Overall, it has cut them down considerably.

Depakote, even at a low dose gives me a tremor, so I don't take it. It works alright for me, but at a therapeutic dose the tremor is almost unbearable, and at a low dose I need to take it with something else and I still get the tremor, so I don't see it as worth it. Only thing I miss about it is not getting migraines.

Have you thought about topamax? My pdoc gives it for BP frequently. I'm happy on lamictal, but if I had to choose, I would do topomax. On depakote I lost chunks of hair, and it was bad on my self image, along with the weight thing.

I've been on depakote before too. And at a different time lamictal.
Unfortunately last years ECT brain frys have messed up both short and long term memories.
I hope I don't have to go thru more med changes or ip. But somehow it seems change is often necessary .
