I was watching the Big Bang Theory & Sheldon told Howard a story about the phrase "this too shall pass."
The phrase appears in the fable of a powerful king who asks his wise men to create a ring that will make him happy when he is sad. After deliberation the wise men hand him a simple ring with the words "This too shall pass" etched on it, which makes him happy when he is sad. It also, however, became a curse for whenever he is happy. Sounds like bipolar. At first it brought up my negative feelings towards my bipolar illness. That when I'm happy, sadness is not far around the corner. Like I have to pay a price for happiness. Then I read a bit deeper into the meaning & interpretation of the phrase. In essence, it teaches that every feeling, emotion, thought or situation in life is temporary. It teaches us about acceptance, to not resist and to accept whatever we may be facing in our life. At a deeper level, if we can come to the realization that life is impermanent, the better off we will be. We have to flow with life, adjust to change or circumstances, and realize that, nothing that we have in this world is a guarantee. I fluctuate between shining moments of realisation where I can accept this. Where life's unknowns are almost the beauty of it all. To periods of extreme anxiety & disillusionment.

This too shall pass. I think AA uses this too.
I felt better one time after reading The Power of Now. It gave me strength. I even ordered on books on cd to listen to, but it too is temporary. It gets u all jazzed and manic. Then the old depression slips back and you can't read or listen and nothing sounds good.
