I'm on seroquel and have gained pushing fifteen pounds now and it doesn't seem to be leveling off.

The only atypical that I haven't tried (that I can afford) is risperdal.

If you are on or have been on risperdal, how much weight did you gain (if any)?

And if you've also been on seroquel, which one made you gain the most?

I've never been on risperdal, but Seroquel never caused weight gain for me, and I've been on it 2 or 3 times now. Everyone reacts differently.

Lucky. It's making me chubby (well, at least I'm pretty sure now it's the culprit and not gabapentin). It makes me so frickin hungry! And I try not eating like I normally do but I can't stand it. I pace around moaning about how hungry I am! Lol. And it's making me lazy. I'm turning into a chubby lazy person.

This time around I've noticed some hunger, but it only lasts for maybe 45 minutes after I take it...and it's not all bad since I'm trying to get my ED back into remission.

I'm on restoril and seraquel at bedtime. It's the seraquel I even wake up I'm so hungry and I can't seem to get back to sleep unless I eat at least a few crackers.

But I lost 40 lbs when I was ip. Don't remember it but husband says I refused to eat.

I gained more by far on seroquel. I gained 40 on seroquel in about a yr, I would eat and eat after I took it at night like crazy. And seroquel made me feel zombiefied.

On risperdal I gained 15 lbs but can't remember how long I was on it for. I'm going to be starting invega soon, and I'm hoping I have less weight gain on it than risperdal. They're similar drugs.

But on seroquel I craved everything, on risperdal I craved carbs and believe it or not I craved veggies too. Loved broccoli and cauliflower steamed with salt on risperdal, lol.

Last time I was on seroquel I had really bad sugar cravings, like I would eat whole jars of strawberry jam plain. Lol! Gross. This time around no cravings.

Actually, now that I think about it, I didn't really have any problems at all this time around until my dose was upped to 300mg. Maybe I'll ask my pdoc if we can go back down to 200 and see if that helps.

I gained like 15lbs on seroquel and other than make me extremely groggy it didn't do much for me. I've been on risperdal for about a year and a half and i only gained about 10lbs and it works really well for me. I'm not as hungry on risperdal either so my snacking has gone down dramatically from when i was on the seroquel.

Yeah see if going down helps. Have you ever been on risperdal? Risperdal really works great for me other than the carb cravings...

I was on risperdal for about 2 months and gained like 25 lbs. It was ridiculous. The amount of booze I was drinking at the time probably didn't help much either. I'm currently on lithium and my weight seems to be back under control for the most part.

I've never been on it. Last one I have left to try.

I really do like seroquel though, other than the weight gain, laziness, and feeling starving all of the time.

Yeah I know how hard it is. Zyprexa has really helped me, but I just can't take the weight gain anymore. Lowering it 5 mgs and I've lost 10 lbs, without even trying. I'm so hoping once I'm off it the weight will just melt off.

But yeah it's like we have to choose between our physical health and our mental health. But if you're only at the top of the healthy weight for your height I bet you still look good. maybe add in some exercise to combat anymore weight gain....

I've been on Seroquel three times. I'm currently on it and have gained ten pounds. I cried yesterday. I'm always hungry and I always want chocolate. Last time I was on Seroquel my pdoc put me on Topamax for the hunger issue. I didn't lose the weight, but I didn't gain anymore. I was on 100mg of topamax and I felt as dumb as a box of rocks. He lowered it to 50 mg and I was fine cognitively. I seem him in two weeks and I'm going to beg him to put me on Topamax, I can't take this anymore. Every time I have been off of Seroquel I lost a ton of weight, so I know the hunger is this damn Seroquel. Food is always on my mind. I always say I will only take a bite and then before I know it I've devoured it. I've been slowly switching to eating healthy like I was before Seroquel, it's so hard.

I've actually lost weight since I've been on respirdal. My pdoc put me on a strict diet to stay away from carbs. He told me that if I didn't stay away from them completely, I would crave them even more and I would be back in two weeks cursing him out because of my weight gain. When i've actually stuck too it, i've lost weight. In general, i try to stay away from carbs early in the day. The earlier I eat them, the more I crave. The higher the dosage, the worse it gets. Good luck on finding what works for you. I couldn't use seroquel. I was having side effects that weren't even listed on the list of side effects.

Yeah. It sucks having to choose!

I'm just worried because my at the upper end of average weight it slowly going into overweight. I've been averaging a pound a day. It's freaking me out! Luckily I have a very physically active job or who knows what weight I'd be at right now.

I'm not sure what to do. I just spent fifteen minutes looking at a seroquel log and trying to decide whether or not I want to take it. I'm hoping I'll fall asleep and just forget to take it. Lol!

never gained weight on risperdal, but it did make me lactate it was helpful for my agitation, but because of the lactating my pdoc took me off of it.
i gained a little on seroquel but it was more mentally numbing than anything else.

Risperdal gave me awful akathsia. I'm not sure if it made me crave carbs, but I was on depakote too and I always thought that made me ravenous. But yes, I guess I could have been the risperdal.

Ugh. I just don't know what to do about this seroquel situation! I've been on the higher dose for a month now. And besides the hunger and laziness these past couple of nights I've been getting heart palipitations and weakness and it feels like a lesser version of the heart problems I had when I was on geodon. I have to call on monday. I just have such a rocky relationship with my pdoc and had to fight her not to make me stay on haldol which was giving me awful akathesia even with cogentin! And she only gives me one option now for APs because I've been on all the atypicals except for risperdal and latuda which I can't afford! And I didn't want to try risperdal because of the lactation thing and we fought about that! And she's already going to be pissed about the depakote situation even if I did try going of lamictal but got depressed.

And now she's going to be all smug about seroquel and the weight gain because she always brings up how I'm worried about weight gain!

I give up.

And then I didn't take it last night because of the chubbiness and starving feeling and how I wake up when I take it unbearably hungry and end up eating three bowls of cereal and toast and my husband is upset I didn't take it and if I don't take it tonight again he'll be even more upset but I can't stand the side effects anymore! I'm kind of freaking out right now! I had to take my propranolol!

Your kind of in a corner .. Can you ask this Pdoc about going everyother day on Seroquel? I mean the half life is long enough.. Maybe that would decrease the eating which will decrease the weight gain.. I have no idea why so many pdocs dont offer this as a option..
