Irregularly regularly.

Chopping off hair in the middle of the night with dollar store scissors? Yup.
Why? Because it needs doing NOW and besides, how hard could it be when you are a genius at everything in the universe?

The usual contrast of level in dress and personal care invested in depression vs. manic-y. Also phases. Looking back, there's a fair bit of what-the-hell-was-I-thinking?! I'd like to forget how fixated I can get with gawdawful things (Shiny! Color! Caw! Caw! Caw!), but it's actually a very useful indicator.

Currently trying to figure out how to do a midtone purple for hair (it's dark purple). If I really figure it out, it's just me being me. If I just grab a half-baked theory and insist on doing it RIGHT NOW, look out.
Thanks for this!

When manic it's time to whip out my 14 year old punk rocker self and start mapping out my trek around the globe with neon green eyeliner and all
When depressed....well let's not go there lol

To say regularly is to say nothing. I change my appearance every two months. Last weel I altered myself beyond recognition. I had very long natural hair. Look what I did with it:

Does your apperance change regularly?
Thanks for this!

It is funny that you raised this question. I have a friend that I only see once or twice a year, and she calls me a work in process because I never look the same.

I used to do hair and would have a new color every week. Now that I've been not so good, I'm too lazy to tend to my looks. When I do go out its always casual t shirt and jeans. I'm not really girly or feminine.

last time I made a major change in image I cut my hair (which was down to the center of my back) to a number 3 clipper. did this when I moved to Pittsburgh and started attending Pitt... the change propelled me into one of the worst manic episodes I've ever had.

Very pretty ashleysummer

In my last few episodes I stretched my ears and pierced my nose. I am contemplating a wrist tat, but just took a job where I will have to keep it covered, so still deciding on it. I cut my hair every 3-4 years short and then am immediately like, wtf I hate myself with short hair and grow it out again. As for clothing, my style is all over the place. I like to wear some boyish stuff like vans/chucks, jeans, and tees. Or sometimes more girly stuff. Sometimes very hippy. Lately, I am never without eyeliner and mascara (used to be to hide the high/drunkeness).

I used to change my appearance. Had red, pink, brown, blonde hair years back. Now I try not to change much because I found a look that is simple and appropriate (which is hard for me). I get an itch to cut my hair when manic though. But I've done it (cut my own hair) and then screamed in the mirror afterwards several times, ... so I can usually remember those times when I'm thinking of grabbing the scissors.
Thanks for this!

When things fell apart when i was 29 i colored my hair fire engine red and then purple and then shaved it. Dramatic hair changes are usually a sign that i'm going thru something. I'm 50 now and haven't dyed my hair in three years. My last shade was blue due to a romantic fiasco. I don't have the energy to dress up so i'm mostly neat-casual, no make-up, no jewelry. I like the natural look.

I used to take the scissors and the hair dye to my tresses during what I know now to have been manic episodes. Just recently I got the urge again, and thank God my son-in-law talked me out of it. I love the way my hair looks now with highlights and a good cut (he does these for me) so I would've really regretted it if I had messed with it.

My makeup changes with moods too. I wear only minimal eyeliner and mascara when the occasion calls for it, but I have allergies so I don't wear it often. When I'm hypo/manic, however, that's when the blue and green and purple eye shadows come out...and at 57, those are not good colors. LOL

(Keep in mind-- I haven't checked in in a couple of days, so just saw this.)

How weird that this thread should reappear. Why? Because I JUST bought the purple hair color TODAY! Came home and saw this. It's going to be quite the experiment. Semi-permanent are useless for me (which is sad because the color range is amazing!), but demis in "regular" colors work well. Found a demi purple, so we'll see! Interestingly enough, I'm *not* hypo. Definitely not. Current state of hair is testament to that. Yikes. (Now we'll see how long it takes to actually use it. )

Wow. Amazing timing... (2 1/2 months(!) since writing it!)
