Hi everyone.

After my appointment with my pdoc on Friday, I was prescribed Lamictal. I am currently taking 25mg, titrating up to a therapeutic dose. However, since starting the medication, I have been extremely tired. I take it a night and within a couple of hours, I can't keep my eyes open and even though I'm sleeping about 7 hours a night, I'm still very tired during the day. Did anyone else experience tiredness as a side effect of Lamictal? Did it go away with time?

For some, it's activating for others sedating.
After taking it for 5 yrs, I still don't know what it does to me.
I'm taking Lithium at night now. So I take it in the morning.
Is that the only med you are taking?.

Yes, that's the only med I'm taking. My pdoc wants to see if monotherapy will help with my episodes before he starts adding other medications to the mix.

Since this is your 1st and only med, the body will need to adjust.
Besides, you don't need anything to sleep, which is good.
Most side effects wear out with time.
Lamictal is one of the few meds with little or no side effects.
Just watch out for any rash.
Thanks for this!

I took lamictal a long time ago. I burned out on it.
My current cocktail makes me extremely tired and hungry.

I'm on 25 mg of Lamictal right now and I don't feel tired on it... but everybody is different

Apparently sleepiness is a common side effect. See this: Side Effects of Lamictal (Lamotrigine) Drug Center - RxList

"Common side effects of Lamictal may include: dizziness, tremors, sleepiness, loss of coordination, headache, double vision, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dry mouth, changes in menstrual periods, back pain, sore throat, runny nose, or sleep problems (insomnia)"

Lamictal made me tired and zoned out. The funny thing is that I didn't have those side effects when I started it. I got them after being on it for 3 years.

Lamictal was too activating for me. I ended up getting dysphoria from it. My risperdal makes me tired if I haven't taken it in awhile. And everytime we up my trileptal that makes me very tired. You should get used to it after a couple days though. Good luck!

It's pretty activating for me. Once I went up to 100mgs I couldn't sleep and switched it to taking it in the morning. But there is always an adjustment period when taking something new.
Thanks for this!

I find lamictal makes me a bit sleepy but I do have to take something to help me sleep. I hope you are able to get stable on only 1 med. That is my dream but I know it won't happen.

I hope that I can get stable being on only one med too, although I know that's often not the case.
