I'll start by saying that I obviously won't go off any meds without doctor consent. I'm also married to a pharmacist, but I just know he's getting so tired of me asking questions- so I turn to you!

I am just curious is most people with BPD take two medications? I am newly diagnosed and my doctor put me on Tegretol and Saphris. I'm curious if anyone knows of a reason for the combo? Is a combo normal?

Depends on what the Pdoc is trying to accomplish.

Tegretol is a mood stabilizer and saphris is a AP (depending on who you ask I guess) but those two types of meds are usually given for BP, and BPD is treated like BP is. However if you have BPD only, it's harder to treat. I have both and I've been through tons of trial and error. Im on trileptal, tegritals cousin and I didn't get stable until I started it. So I'd say it's a good choice. But I've never tried saphris. I'm sure someone on here has and can answer that question. Bug your husband all you want lol! I'm always curious about new meds I'm put on and most of the times Google just tells me how I'm going to die from it or grow horns Medication question

Nobody knows more about med combos than a pharmacist.
You will be asking him about your actual meds.
Those should be the last and final questions.

Pharmacist is not putting these in his (or her) body... so peer experiences are valuable as well.

Last and final? Really?

Plus a pharmacist =/= a psychiatrist so there's that...

Thanks all, it helps to know that the combo is normal!

Side note- I'm so sleepy with these medicines. I hate it. I was fine taking tegretol once/day but when I bumped it up to twice per dr instructions, UGH. I can't stay awake. I'm sure everyone has felt this way so I feel like yelling CAN I GET AN AMEN?! I'm on the struggle bus trying to force myself to keep taking the amt he wants me to and make my body get used to it. I know the facts- that I'll get used to it etc. But facts are hard to rememberrrrrr.

He does know, but he also likes to leave work at work and not bring it home, just like everyone. If I can outsource my answers I will because I know I will always have more questions! For example- I have a toothache and got prescriptions for antibiotics and pain mess yesterday. So of course had him searching to make sure they were safe with the new meds there is NEVER an end to the questions!

I like to read how others are doing and their actual side effects.
RX Queen is right. Sometimes googling your Meds is terrifying. Grow horns or hairy palms!

I'm jealous that you have your own pharmacist to turn to lol! It would be constant questions from me. I don't know what kind of pain meds you got but some make me dysphoric. Especially codeine! Yuck.

I understand the situation better now.
The questions come from every med. Not only the phychs.
Serves me well for interfering between husband and wife. hehe.
