My pharmacy got new generics. Old lamictal generic was round and white and made by northstar. New generic is oblong and pink (100mg tablets. I don't know if higher mg looks different) and made by cipla.
I've been on the different generic for three days now and I feel frickin weird! It went from mildly activating to very activating. After I take it in the morning it feels like I drank three redbulls in succesion. And my weirdness feeling has led me to act out of character, like I went off on my boss yesterday! Has this ever happened to anyone else when switching generics? I have no idea why it's making a difference. I just hate this off feeling.

Oh, and I don't know if this makes a difference either, but I've been on the northstar generic for five years now.

Never had psych meds switched but did have my generic synthroid switched...there was a difference. They have the same active ingredients but different inherit chemicals.

I have to go to the pharmacy and see if they can get me the old generic. This weird feeling is unacceptable. It's making me feel like I'm going to freak out (already did that yesterday with my boss!).

Generic drugs only need to have the same active ingredient as their brand name counterparts. Also, there is an "acceptable range" for how close the generic drug has to be.
I've heard that generic drugs only have to be 80% similar to their brand name counterparts. So, 80% of the pill has to be identical to the brand name, but the remaining 20% can be whatever they want. Maybe that's why you're getting these weird effects? |

Generics have to be on a 20% Range of the brand name. Meaning it can have either 80% or 120% of the active ingredient. Of course, they lean toward 80%.
I had the same situation. And the change was supposed to be for the better. (Teva) I will omit the story but run, don't walk to get the same one you were on. Many phyc meds are finnicky. Lamotrigine is one of the most. |

Yes!!! I cannot switch brands of my generic Trileptal, actually I refuse to. The brand was changed once and I got a horrible headache and did not feel well. That is my heaviest med and I don't want to mess around with it, so I tell my pharmacy to only give me that brand. The others I have some flexibility since I haven't been on them too long. Although my last refill of Effexor is different. If I have another problem with this...the pharmacy will hear about it!
The pdoc that originally prescribed my Trileptal told me to try and stick with the same brand so it has the same effect. |

So relieved I'm not alone with this. I'm going to talk to the pharmacy tomorrow about this, or maybe I'll get used to this generic and it'll be okay? Moodwise I feel fantastic! I just feel off.

Have your pharmacy order the right brand for you. I had to do that with my birth control when I switched pharmacies...the generic the new pharmacy gave me was HORRIBLE and I had lots of issues with it, so I had them order my regular kind because I wasn't having the new effects.

It sounds like you're a little manic. I would check a different pharmacy, like other people said. Many times different pharmacies carry different generics. Good luck!

I stopped at the pharmacy today. Knew I had to because the stuff has been making me shake like a leaf after taking it, and now it feels like I'm withdrawing off of it! I can't stand it!
Pharmacist really nice. Explained there are differences between generics, pretty much like blue explained. Said it especially true for me because I've been on same generic for five years. Ordered old generic for me. Will be available on monday. Thank god! I feel like I'm losing my mind!

I've been so frickin angry! Rage filled. My husband said the wrong thing last night and the devil horns went up and the claws came out. Jeez!
