Since the robbery, husband can't come. I told worker about it.
He's already making more than the other Ticos. He also knows the only way I can get to the beach, is if he drives me. This is the second time he insists on coming here on his motorcycle. I'm super depressed. Plus mad. And other emotions. He started an argument with me. He sees I'm in bed all day. But I fought back anyway. I don't have any other workers since I learned that other guy was embezzling. I need someone to watch the ranch when I leave in May. He used to earn $500 a month. When I had my Psycotic break episode last year, he hit me up for $700. That's way more than other caretakers get. Since I've been isolating,I haven't met any new people. Honest workers are hard to come by. This guy actually threatens me with never coming back unless I give him 3 days work every week. I have projects, but don't really feel like making decisions. He does spend 1/2 day cleaning as I don't even wash dishes. I'm scared. No one to talk to except my cat. What am I going to do? Husband had to cancel trip to deal with the robbery. Plus he doesn't speak Spanish. I feel like I'm getting screwed over. Help!

This is just from the perspective of someone who's used to how things go in the USA, but it seems really inappropriate to me how the worker thinks it's any of his business how much time you spend in bed "all day."
I have to imagine theres plenty of laborers in Costa Rica looking for regular work ... could you maybe find someone who speaks english (so your Husband can also communicate) and who isn't overly comfortable with you?

This guy is acting like he owns your property and he's trying to intimidate you. Fire him, but offer glowing references and severance money...all very friendly. Then, hire someone trustworthy, are there any couples who would work for a reasonable wage, and then take care of the inside and outside work, and then caretaker when you're gone? If you're too exhausted and overwealmed, is there an employment or property agent to find you a dependable employee?
It sounds like an intolerable situation. I hope one of your nearby friends can step in and help you sort things out. |

If I were you I would get out of Costa Rica. It seems to cause you more stress than it's worth.

Fire him , as you said there are many other people looking for work.
No one should give a shyt how much you sleep or not sleep. Or as Wolly said , Get out of Costa Rico.

It was great to read your responses. Thanks a bunch.
Our home owners Association is meeting for an hour next week. I pay my dues, but don't go to the meetings as they end up being extremely triggering. I thought maybe if I went I might be able to find out if anyone had an extra workers. So far the feelers I've put out have come back empty handed. I joined House Minders online. One couple said no, because lady is allergic to cats. Another said first opening is in 2017. They come and watch your house and pets for free rent.

Is yours a situation where an American or Japanese that you can trust can come live with you and help you? I could ask around, maybe get you a reference. Offered a weapons-grade Costa Rican housesitting gig, there's no telling what someone might do.
