I have had issues with addiction but I do not necessarily believe that I have an "addictive personality."

Yes. Addictive. And compulsive.
But I'm clean of opioids.
I only drink a little.
New issue. I started smoking after 35 years of not. I might check into medical pot when I get back.
When I have a man, sex addiction too.

Obsessive personality.

I get very obsessed with one thing and I don't/can't stop focusing on it. For example, I'll find a new potential hobby that I want to do. Then immediately I'll start obsessively researching it and look for things I want to buy. I'll do this everyday for several hours, and it'll continue for weeks or months. It's amazing that I don't get bored!

Addictive personality refers to certain traits in individuals with propensity to release stress thru pleasurable activities, like alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, pornography, internet, video games, exercise, etc.
Guilty as charged.

Well, now that you mention internet...

I'm quite addicted! It goes hand in hand with my obsessive personality.

Before getting clean, I drank, then smoked crack so I wouldn't get drunk, then started on opiates to get off the crack, then started back drinking to get off the opiates. I'm breaking off a relationship with another addict and the 'love,' was just another addiction. Now that I'm free from everything, I've take up smoking cigarettes

It usually, not necesarily, it takes more than one addiction. Forgot food.

I believe you. I was addicted to milk for years. Went more than two years without drinking water, just milk. In my mind, it has kept me alive. Cleasing all the other crap. Now, I don't "need" it. I drink it some days though. I'm addicted to green juice now.

50% of the tobacco products are consumed by the mentally ill.
Try and get into eCigs. It's a little better.
No MAOIs thought. Maybe all you need is the nicotine.
Not the ones at Seven/Eleven. Go to an eCig store and check 'em out.
Then go to Fasttech.com and buy 'em for 1/2 the price or less. Pay for better shipping. Their free shipping takes forever. Good luck.
Thanks for this!

Herb is good. Alcohol is a problem with the meds you're taking. Be safe.

i recently got clean off opiates, smoked weed everday for years too, but stopped last year. Strangely if i smoke now i feel very self conscious and question everything i say or do. I feel very paranoid and ashamed of who i have become and how i act.

Yes, addictive, obsessive, self-damaging.

do want to draw a point that was recently explained to me .... now I am not any kind of authority but as I understand it most of what we have listed are really "dependentcy's" , a true addiction takes over you entire life and it is all you are living for ... think homeless crack addict ...

Or mania.

But yes, dependence. Makes a lot of psychiatrists feel a lot less quilty.

But seriously, I'd say it takes some addictive natural tendency (is this word still taboo? ) to really get addicted, maybe.

An addict does not have to be a crack smoking homeless person to be an addict. That kind of thinking could dissuade addicts who have 'high bottoms' to not get help before they lose everything. This type of generalization increases the stigma of addition and is a incorrect.

Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continued use/act of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary life responsibilities, such as work.

Dependency is being dependent on something. That simple. Not necessarily addicted.
I'm dependent on .5 mg of xanax to sleep.
If I was using 10 mg a day, affecting budget and/or family, of course, that will be addiction.
