I'm sick of trying to lose weight on my own and have decided to ask my doctor for weigh-neutral meds. I'm on Seroquel, Risperdal and Clonazepam. From what i can gather from recent posts, Seroquel is a real weight-gainer. How about Risperdal?

What are some weight-neutral alternatives?

Last year my doctor prescribed Metformin in addition to Seroquel as a way to counteract the weight gaining symptom. I aactually managed to lose some weight.

I take Seroquel and gained 5 pounds since January, after already being overweight. I joined Weight Watchers 10 days ago, and have lost that and a little more so far. I still get cravings in the evening, but following the program gives me a structure that helps. But it's still hard not to overeat. Good luck.

Seroquel is quite the weight gainer. Since getting back on it I've gained 4 lbs this month. I'm not happy about that at all. I also take saphris sometimes and that's weight neutral and also puts you to sleep. As far as the risperdal im really not sure.

Trileptal and Lamictal are weight neutral for mood stabilizers. But then again, how well is the Seroquel working for you?
Thanks for this!

I get the munchies from the Klonopin. About two hours after I take it, boom!

Risperdal is a weight-gainer for me, so it's no longer my main antipsychotic. I only take 1 mg now. Latuda has been weight-neutral for me, so it's my main antipsychotic. Latuda also helps keep my anxiety under control. I've been able to lose 60 lbs on Latuda (while following Weight Watchers).

I gained 15 lbs on paxil. I changed my diet and have been working my *** off at the gym every night while I switched to depakote. I've lost about 8 lbs now.
Weight control HAS to include a lifestyle change. It can't be a diet. It has to be an overhaul of your home and your grocery list and even your choices when eating out. I strongly suggest the 21 day fix, until you get a concept of portion control. Portioning will help so much.

And exercise is a must. If it's walking or something harder. You don't need a gym, just will power to change. Good luck

I've gained quite a bit of weight on psych meds, but I started out on Depakote - and gained 100 pounds. I've lost 50 of that but am stuck there for now (I don't take Depakote anymore). I take Geodon, Klonopin, Adderall and Brintellix. I also started taking L-methyl-folate and this seems to help with the cravings.

Wellbutrin is supposed to be one of the only antidepressants that doesn't cause weight gain. When I researched it I saw it was called by some the 'happy, horny, skinny pill' it also helps with smoking cessation. I take wellbutrin, risperdal, and lithium. I haven't gained weight, well I have gone down then back up...hey kinda like my bp.

Add Lexapro to that list. I haven't gained weight on that antidepressant.

Oh, and Lamictal/Latuda are weight neutral. The only problem with Latuda is you have to take it with food, so sometimes people eat more than usual.

Ha! I've heard that too! It didn't make me skinny, but I didn't eat as much as before. And it did bring back the sex drive that Effexor took away

Wellbutrin = happy, horny, skinny pill. Lol. In my case, yes. And I thought I was Einsteins great granddaughter too. I have his hair (not joking).
Thanks for this!

God damn having such a horrible illness that's medications side effect is weight gain! I hate it so much! The only med (anti depressant) that hasn't caused weight gain for me is St John's Wort. I get pretty much the same anti depressant effects as a standard SSRI without all the side effect crap. Just a shame it's not doctor prescribed.

St. John's Wort can have some side effects.... So can melatonin. Just cause it's OTC, we still need to discuss with our Doctor. A service announcement from your self appointed counsel on OTC meds,

Yes, its not a thing you should take on your own without a doctors blessing, it's a powerful drug which has effects on neurotransmitters and has interactions with prescription drugs.
Thanks for this!

My mom has been on Seroquel for sleep for the past 2 years and has gained 40 lbs. In her case, she didn't want to get off of them and was really upset when he switched her to Trazodone. So, that is my limited take on that med.
