Hi everyone

I was diagnosed as bipolar II about 3 years ago by 1 doctor. I recently did an MMPI test for a second opinion and it came up negative for bipolar disorder.

I've been taking Lamictal and Latuda, and Latuda hasn't been working for me. I can't tell if Lamictal is working because I just titrated up to 200mg about 4 days ago. I wonder if I truly do have bipolar affective disorder or if it was a misdiagnosis.

How accurate is the MMPI?

I sort of want to start from scratch. No mood stabilizer, no antidepressants, no antipsychotics. Take all those medications away. Then I want to start a different antidepressant like Effexor and see if it makes me manic.

I know intentionally inducing mania is bad, but I want to figure out which medications work for me and which ones don't. :|

I hope someone here can help me.

Thanks!

Here's an interesting article:
Assessment of Borderline Personality Disorder Using the MMPI-2 and the Personality Assessment Inventory

It assesses the accuracy of the MMPI for borderline personality patients.

Quote:
9% of the patients and 95% of the students were classified correctly based on the MMPI-2
Looks like it's not terribly accurate for borderline personality disorder. I don't know what that says about bipolar, but the test doesn't seem 100% accurate to me.

The MMPI and other tests like it are only as accurate as the one doing the answering. think of it like those multiple choice tests you took in high school. your answers on the tests just reflected how you answered the questions.

if for example you answer truthfully on the MMPI then you willget an accurate report of how your answers tallied up to be

if for exanple you dont answer truthfully then the report will tally those answers and based on your own answers will tell you what those not truthful answers add up to be.

a common example used around here to illustrate this is

if someone who is a painter marks no on all the questions having to do with painting the the report is going to say they are not a painter.

if you have a problem with the results of the test you can contact your treatment provider, they will go over the test results and tell you how and why you no longer fit the diagnosis of bipolar any more.
