I'm very sorry if this has been posted here before.

Have you ever watched this 1 hour and 23 minute documentary on Bipolar?

I haven't finished it yet. Got most of the way through the interviewee's discussion on mania.

For those that have seen it, what are your thoughts? Would you find it useful for friends and loved-ones to watch?

I started viewing the video you linked to.

I haven't watched the whole thing, but I've seen pieces of it before on YouTube. I just didn't know that the videos I've seen were actually part of that documentary. (I guess some people on YouTube like to take bits and pieces from that documentary and upload them as short videos without giving proper credit.)

Anyway, the beginning is very interesting. I've never seen that part. It just goes to show how uneducated people are about mental illness in general, which is sad. It also makes me wish that schools would educate students on mental health and highlight the importance of seeking help, especially since a lot of kids get bullied and end up depressed and/or anxious.

In general, I think the video is very good for educating people on bipolar disorder. It captures the illness quite well.

I don't know if my friends or loved ones would watch it, mostly because it's long and it may bore them. (My friends and family tend to get bored easily. IDK.) I also haven't actually disclosed my illness to anyone, but I suppose if I did, I would show them certain parts of the documentary, especially where they describe what mania is and what it's like.

I just watched the first ten minutes where they asked people on the street what they know about bipolar disorder. I agree that we need more mental health education. We talked one day in health class about suicide risk and that's all the education I got in the 12 years of schooling I've had. Definitely not enough.

I only got to the part where they were interviewing people and they were all talking about how angry they felt.

Are we all really angry people? Is that a bp thing? Do we all get pissed off and destroy things? Before I was put on lamictal I used to destroy things a lot. My anger was so all consuming I felt like if I didn't let it out I would explode!

Things have toned down since then but I still have my moments.

Just curious.

Idk I'm pissed off (or at least irritable) most of the time. The anger/irritability worsens during a (hypo)manic, mixed, or depressive episode... but it never goes away.

Someone on Reddit gave me this a while ago: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

Look at #2 and #3 in the "bipolar" column. Says "chronic irritability" and "breaks things out of frustration/rage"

I tend to break things when I'm pissed. I remember a few months ago throwing a bunch of ceramic plates at the floor and shattering them because I was furious. Just enough control not to hurt anybody. I used to be angry a lot but I've mellowed out lately.

Yeah, I've destroyed my fair share of things. The worst *recent* bout of anger was probably when I kicked my closet door so hard that I put a massive hole in it, almost knocking it off its hinges. Then my dad had the audacity to tell me "stop over exaggerating... You don't need to be that mad". That's when I flipped out and shoved him against the wall really hard. He didn't see it coming and backed way off after that.

I didn't want to hurt him, but he pissed me off so badly when I was already in the middle of a rage.

That was like 2 years ago.

The absolute worst was when I was 14. I physically attacked him and started destroying everything in sight. Like, I was so pissed that I started knocking things off the table, flipping over garbage cans, etc. The amount of sh** I destroyed was ridiculous

Thank you for posting this. If never seen this and I cried hard throughout and especially towards the end. I invited my parents over this Saturday for pizza and they agreed to watch it, along with my husband, 2 teenage sons and myself. I think this is something everyone should watch. Very well done documentary. Thank you again.
Thanks for this!

I've kicked holes in doors too, put dents in walls, etc. My rage used to be so intense I would scream and pull my hair and hit myself in the face and just kick my own ***/go completely crazy. It was nuts. Happy I don't kick my own *** out of rage anymore.
