My pdoc has been refusing to give me medication for my ADHD, which has been a big problem for me. (He thinks I don't need it, even though I very clearly have a diagnosis for ADHD.) The good news is, my new GP has graciously agreed to prescribe me ADHD medication while I search for a new pdoc.
![]() Does anyone here have experience with ADHD medication? Or, do they know any BP people who take ADHD medication? I don't think my GP is too knowledgeable about comorbid BP and ADHD, which is why I want to do some research before I have my appointment with my GP. I'm afraid of stimulants causing hypo/mania, so I'm a bit hesitant about asking for a stimulant, but do non-stimulants cause hypo/mania too? If they both cause hypo/mania, then I'll just research all the drugs and see which ones are reasonable. |

I am BP2 and on adderall for ADD. Initially it did cause hypomania but eventually my body got used to it and that went away. My doc just kept close eye on me during hypomania. He tried to counter balance it with lithium but I didnt like how zombieish the lithium made me feel.
Now I have been on it 2 years and no issues except my body being addicted to it. Be careful getting on stimulants because getting off is hell from what I hear. I was told by an EMT that vyvanse is better because it is metabolized in your large intestine. My goal is to get off adderall and try that. |

Thanks for letting me know
![]() I've heard a lot of good things about Vyvanse, but I guess it's a question of whether or not I can afford it. ![]() I'll keep an eye out for stimulant addiction, though. Sounds like I might want to stay away from Adderall and the like. |

Vyvanse was crazy expensive and made me a raging maniac. It did help my grades though lol. Now i use green tea instead, much cheaper and i don't try to fight people because they had the audacity to stop at a red light

I take Adderall and am Bipolar I as well as ADD, inattentive type. I don't have any trouble with it at all.

I don't know if I have combined or hyperactive-impulsive. I was just given a DSM-V code, and I guess combined and hyperactive-impulsive have the same code, even though the inattentive type has its own code. I never bothered to ask which type I am |

I take Concerta for my ADHD. It helps keep my mind in a slower gear. It has not affected my bipolar symptoms but it is rather expensive. I took two doses in one day before because I was wanting to stay up for this event and it just made me relaxed and kind of tired instead. I guess that's how I know I have ADHD.

I don't have ADD or ADHD, but take Adderrall IR due to concentration issues. As long as I stick to my dosage instructions, I'm fine. I don't get "high."
At one point I tried Vyvanse but it just got to expensive, was wearing off too quickly (despite Big Pharma claims), and the crash was worse than Adderrall IR. I have also take Adderrall XR but it was not effective for me. I think Straterra is non-stimulant but I've not heard good things about it. |

PS: if you do get on ADD meds, taking it with Vitamin C will flush it right out of your system.
