I think my pdoc just took a course on bipolar. This is the first time in 13 years that she has asked me to do a mood chart or talked about rapid cycling 3 or more episodes in a year. She wants data to know what to do with me (she thinks I am under medicated) so am doing the best that I can documenting my days.How do I document my excitment over our trip with out appearing hypo?

goals and stats:
7-10 drinks per week.
6-8 hours of sleep a night.
3-4 mood scale.

AF= Alcohol free
Mod= 1-3 drinks
DD= 4 or more drinks in a setting

Mood values/numbers:

0=suicidal
1=depressed
2=low mood
3=baseline mood
4=a little above baseline
5=hypomanic
6=manic
7=psychotic or an episode requiring zyprexa

4-24 Mod 3 pints last day of festival!, mood= 4
4-25 AF, slept 7, mood= 3
4-26 mod 2 root beers, slept 6, mood= 3
4-27 AF, slept 6, mood= 3
4-28 AF, slept 7, mood= 3
4-29 Mod 1 pint, slept 8, mood= 3
4-30 AF

Drinks per week= 7

5-1 Mod 3 pints, slept 8, mood= 3
5-2 AF, slept 7, mood =4
5-3 AF, slept 7, mixed mood=4/2 extreme fatigue 1 hour nap
5-4 AF, slept 7, mood=3
5-5 AF, slept 6, mood =4 planning trip
5-6 Mod 3.5 beers, slept 7 , mixed/mood =4/2 extreme fatigue, 2 hour nap
5-7 mod/dd 4 beers slept 6.5, mixed/mood= 3/2 extreme fatigue again, no nap

Drinks per week= 10.5

Goals for week:
5-8 AF
5-9 AF
5-10 AF
5-11 AF
5-12 AF
5-13 Mod 2
Thanks for this!

I'm glad your pdoc is doing something constructive! You sure had a lot of data in your post; is your pdoc going to see that?

I've never done formal mood charting; I've journaled though, which helps.

yes she wants to see these numbers once a month.
I keep track at another web site. It is very easy to do for me.

Just be honest, hypo or not because they have to get accuracy to treat you accordingly.

That seems cool. How is it working for you? I know it is early days. Can I download an app like that onto my iPhone?

you could create a word document and just write the dates and and use these numbers if you want to. It is not hard. I know there are actual mood charts out there. Google mood charts and you should find an easy one to down load.
Since I am already documenting my alcohol usage it is easy to just add on sleep and moods since she wants to see all three.
Good luck with this.

really hard to be AF today. My car needed an oil change and they said I needed 2 new tires....sigh
So..... I even went so far as walking to the shinto sushi place next door to have some wine in their bar and talked myself out of that and order a crab roll instead which was quite yummy and cost less than one beer would have been I might add. But the best part is that I did not drink and drive and that I did not drink during the week. and did not have to come here and confess that.
so
goals still met for the day!

goals "7-10 drinks a week"... damn. I have that every time I drink and I do that at least 3 nights a week. think I might be developing a habit.

The only time I did mood charting was a little over a year ago when I was in an intensive outpatient program (9 hours of DBT and IPSRT a week). I didn't find it to be that helpful for me as I was in a mixed state at the time and the -5 to +5 scale didn't really apply.

I am glad you shared. I would say when I am in mixed mode I tend to drink more, which makes everything worse.
Thanks for this!

I don't drink except a glass or maybe 2 at most a few times a year. Being manic and drunk is a recipe for disaster for me and I tend to "want" to drink primarily when manic or anxious. It doesn't sound like you are drinking much and it sounds like you are keeping an eye on things. Keep up the good work. I've tried charting my moods but fail. I think I will find an app for that today.
Thanks for this!

thank you two for replying to me.
so far 6 for the week that is if I don't have any tomorrow night as well as tonight.
I really would like to keep the numbers down. It had become a daily habit. But it was also during a time where my meds were not right and I was hypomanic a good bit of the time that I was drinking daily.

Well I broke 2 goals this week. I had 3 beers on monday. Jeff drove.
then I had one drink tonight with a big dinner and drove to the gym to walk on the tred mill 3.25 miles because it was going to rain and jeff walked in the neighborhood by himself and ended up not getting rained on after all. I actually forgot that I had that root beer until after I was coming home from the gym.
sigh
It is not the end of the world.
