How do *your* meds affect your appetite, if at all?

Ever since I've started Lamictal, I've experienced a loss of appetite. It's horrible because sometimes I go through the entire day without eating anything. I try to remind myself to eat, but I can go 24 hours without food and not notice anything, which is really bad. :|

It's been so bad that I've been using a phone alarm to remind me to eat lunch and dinner... which helps.

I wonder: does anyone else have this problem with Lamictal? I wonder if it's caused by this generic version I'm using... It's so stupid! I don't have any other side effects though.

I take both Lamictal and Seroquel. Somehow they do not magically cancel themselves out when it comes to eating/not eating. Ugh, right?

If I eat before I take Seroquel, then I do not suffer hunger pains and extreme cravings. But sometimes I forget to take it because the Lamictal during the day numbs me from any hunger at all.

While manic, despite taking two mood stabilizers, I feel absolutely no hunger at all for a couple of days or more. Which is not safe as I have hypoglycemia thanks to a chronic digestive condition. Oh, and Lamictal usually makes me really thirsty.

Meds often have an effect on my appetite. I'm currently taking Risperidone and Latuda. Latuda does not effect my appetite. Risperidone has me craving sweets and eating like a maniac. The lower my dose of RISPERIDONE goes, the lower my appetite. Last month I was manic and couldn't eat, even when I wanted to. I try to remember to stay hydrated but even forget about that. My appetite is all over the place whether I'm on meds, or off. Usually I'm an eat to live kinda person. Sometimes I'm a live to eat. I'm a walking contradiction I tell ya.
Thanks for this!

Hello Bicycle.

I had not noticed that when I was taking Lamictal. I have not been eating well for months as I went off my meds, and have been cyclin like crazy. I don't know what's worse to me though. Being on meds like Seroquel that make me head to the refrigerator even when I can barely keep my eyes open. Or as of late forgetting to eat and finally being able to lose the "psych med" weight and becoming way too thin.

Now...I'm frightened it's all going to come back again

I took lamotragine? (generic for lamictal) for a year? No food stuff/weight stuff but terrible painful cystic acne. Gained weight on Lithium/Geodon (they say Geodon is weight neutral, but it's the only consistent drug I've been on), never lost it until I became vegan Jan 1 and started Topamax Feb 1. Down 47 pounds since Jan 1.

Very little appetite, small meals, never ever snack.

Still have 50 lbs to lose but I feel very hopeful given how far I've come

But people, we have to eat with these drugs. Most of them, and some of them a real meal. Like 350 calories! Or you get a half dose! And cause damage to your liver!

I completely understand. I am terrified of all AP bc of weight gain, and I seriously question the effectiveness of mine. I've been wondering about Saphris, which is supposed to be largely weight neutral, you take only at night, but it can mess with your heart, give you RLS, anxiety... oy oy oy

I'm on lamictal (been on it 10 years now) and I never experienced loss of apatite with it. but I was on adderal (xr and ir) and then Ritalin and those made food unappetizing and I had no desire to eat at all. vyvanse is close to the same thing as adderal but it doesn't cause the apatite problems.

Risperdal was the worst for me-I gained fifty pounds. I'm being slowing weaned off of it, and we added Ritalin to my mix, and I'm starting to lose the weight. I haven't noticed any change with the Lamictal or the sertraline. I would like to stop the sertraline, but my pdoc wants to focus on one drug at a time.

Latuda subdued my appetite, but my pdoc added Zoloft and I feel hungry most of the time.

I had that same effect when I started Lamictal. I could go the whole day without eating and I didn't even care. I could eat one meal for the day and I was satisfied. I lost about five pounds those first couple of weeks. But that went away and I'm back to my regular eating pattern which isn't excessive (just mostly junk good).
