My family will celebrate 400 years in the United States in the year 2020. How long have your people been here?

I'm just curious.
Thanks for this!

I'm Canadian. My dad was a history teacher. One of his projects during his retirement was to drive down to our federal capital and research our heritage at our national archives. He traced our history back to 1650 so that means we were one of the very first Canadians!

I had an ancestor come over on the Mayflower, I believe. So that would be 400 years in 2020 for me too. Most (if not all) of my ancestors have been here since before the start of the Civil War.

My grandmother was born in Germany..my grandfather' parents were born in Germany. On the other side I've no info except that both sets of great grandparent were born here. So...recent imports relatively speaking.

I'm Canadian. My parents came to Canada, from Scotland, in the 1950s.
They wanted to emigrate to Australia, but there was an 18 month waiting list to go.
Canada did not have a waiting list

On the German side, since 1870 directly from Germany.

On the Irish side, it's a bit more confusing. They came from New Brunswick and Newfoundland in 1880 so there's some Canadian in there as well (two generations).

My mom's mom's family came here from Ireland I believe in the 1800s. Not sure about her dad's family. My dad has always told me his family has been in the states (Texas) since before the border with Mexico was drawn and once the US got Texas, our family was kind of just absorbed.

My people crept out of Suceava, Galicia, Lodz and Naples at different times in the early 20th century. Those involved are not available for comment. The Japanese I live and work with came to Honolulu in the 1960's.

Time in the U.S.

I think the 1970's? I don't know that's when my dad and mom came over from Canada. I was born here in 1980. So 36 years for me in the U.S.
