So today I had to go to the ER from a bad reaction or my stabilizer increase. So that med (trileptal) is out the window. So I'm thinking about geodon since its for agitation etc. and right now I'm having dysphoria and benzos are only going so far. Plus I don't like taking them back to back for obvious reasons.

Well I'm thinking about geodon. Thing is I see it's very similar to Latuda as far as nausea and taking it with food. Latuda had me in bed throwing up in a bag for a whole day! So is there a chance geodon will do the same thing?

So who's on/been on geodon and was it a love or hate relationship?

I've been on geodon since 2010. There was a short while where I tried latuda and that failed so i went back on geodon. I take 40 mg in the AM and 240 mg in the PM. The FDA limit is 160 mg, but the actual limit is 330 mg (found that out in the psych ward). My pdoc had to appeal the denial by my insurance so i could get the 240 mg at night, that was a big fiasco.

Anyways, I really like geodon. Make sure you start off low and go up slowly. The second time i was on it my old pdoc increased it too fast and i ended up having 2 seizures. This is the third time i'm on geodon. Don't have any side effects from it, just makes me tired.

I take saphris too along with it. Seems to help with the agitation as well.

I've read that it works well for mixed episodes which is what I'm going through right now. It's mental hell. I want to cry and scream and honestly claw my face off. (No I'm not actually going to harm myself)

The reason geodon needs to be taken with food (a full meal) is that it is absorbed that way. Not that it causes nausea.
I take 80mg twice daily and it is my sanity.
I thought the total was 160 for the day.
guess I was wrong.
It is weight neutral!

Ok so would you guys say you use it at a stabilizer? The reason I want to stray from your traditional anti-seizure meds is because I want to get back on birth control and you can't take it with those.

I'm going nuts over here. Just an hour ago I was hypo and happy as all hell and now I'm back to dysphoria. I can't wait till next friggin Friday to get in to see my pdoc. I feel like I'm losing it Who's on geodon?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Have you ever been put on Lithium? What about Abilify? Just a couple ideas of meds that help me (my pdoc considers my anxiety and obsession to be part of a mixed episode, so I really experience a lot of mixed episodes because anxiety/obsession is my main problem). I just started the Abilify about a month ago and it's working great. It's taken my anxiety from severe to mild.

P.S. I tried Geodon briefly, and it was like a sugar pill for me. It didn't do squat. But everyone is different.

Geodon is great for me. I've never had nausea with Geodon nor weight gain. The calories are needed to make the med work (metabolize properly). Lamictal is my main mood stabilizer. I'm on Geodon for bipolar 1 mania and psychosis. It also helps me sleep and does feel like a mood stabilizer. I'd be more of a mood roller coaster without it!
Thanks for this!

P.S.: I found it starts working very quickly. Within a couple of days, I started feeling much better. I did have some sedation at the beginning, during the day, but that went away.
Thanks for this!

Yes I've tried lithium and got toxicity. Abilify gave me very bad restless leg. Lamictal made me extremely dysphoric. I'm a lost cause lol

I've been on Geodon for over three years now, and it's not as effective as Zyprexa but it does help smooth out my moods. It's also weight-neutral; I lost about 20 lbs. on it but gained them back when I went on Zyprexa. I've had no ill effects from it.

Trazodone made me manic when she tried to swtch me from klonipin to trazadone because I drink. fortunately switched back to .5mg to sleep but doesn't workall of the time so I end up taking 1mg more like tonight....have to be up at 8, need to get to bed again and try to get rest.

I took geodon two years ago to knock me out of mania. It did a pretty good job. I didn't take it for long because it didn't prevent severe depression so I switched to Invega (which also doesn't prevent depression but is much better at holding down mania and dysphoria). I don't remember whether I ate with geodon like you're supposed to. The only side effect I remember is that it had a delayed sedating effect for me. Two or three hours after taking it I would be OUT. Like slurring my words, falling asleep standing up out. So I couldn't take it during the day.

Oh yeah, it also made me stupid. My memory was like a goldfish's. I think that's the other reason I stopped taking it.

I take Geodon and for me, it's a miracle drug. It stabilized me in nothing flat. And I wasn't even taking it with food until recently. Now that I'm taking it with food, it stabilzes me and helps me sleep, too, which is a bonus.

That is a plus that is helps sleep. That's another reason I want to take it. I've been on seroquel for years and years and half the time it doesn't even work

I don't suffer with the depression so lamictal suits me fine. and I am bp1 so running hypo is more my norm. I have taken meds for 22 years and my memory is crap.
