My wife is taking a job in a city two hours away, so we are moving.
  • I'm changing jobs
  • I'm losing my T
  • I'm losing my regular pdoc
  • I'm losing my ECT pdoc
  • I'm continuing ECT in a new place
  • I'm losing my GP
  • We've got to find a house to rent to a family with a dog.
  • I'm anxious and stressed.
  • I hate the region and geography of the place we're moving to.
  • I will have to live in a city.
How do I cope? Please share practical tools for combating stress and anxiety.

Wow, I'm sorry that your life is getting so disrupted. That's a lot of changes

I think a new T will be really helpful for you in adapting to your new surroundings. I actually think a new T is key here.

I think you'll have a grieving process. It's normal to grieve the loss of all those things. I'm sure you'll ultimately feel a bit depressed (sorry), so I think it's best for you to get out of the house and explore the new neighborhood. Get to know people and such. Maybe talk to your new neighbors. I'm sure your new coworkers will help you get adjusted actually. They'll probably show you around the city during a lunch break or whatever.
Thanks for this!

Thank you, Blue. An important thing to hear since I'm so fond of my current T that I didn't want to even try to replace her.

Yeah, T's are magical, mystical creatures sometimes :-)

I hope you can find a new T. Maybe think ahead and set up an appointment with a new one right when you're supposed to get there. (Like maybe a few days after you've moved so that you're settled in and unpacked.) I know it is sometimes hard to get a first time appointment with a T, which is why I recommend setting up an appointment in advance so that you're all set when you get there
Thanks for this!

For me ( I loathe big changes) I would be very very proactive. Start calling now to set up appt for Pdoc , T , GP etc .. maybe you won't like one or all.. But getting your foot in the door is always best.

I would also start looking for possible groups you can join, what is there to do or see in this new town, I personally would find the first coffee shop I could, Coffee shops are comforting to me like bookstores also. What free activities are available? Meetups? Certainly having a dog can complicate moving , but... look into dog parks? Where are good places to take your dog for exercise?

Moving is always stressful. Buy some ugly dishes at a thrift store and when you just cant stand it ,, take one out and smash it.. Its helpful sometimes... I tend to put mine in a plastic bag so clean up is easier.

Find ways to let stress out daily , If its allowed to build up the explosion level your going to probably get flung into some sorta Bipolar hell .
