because i can do it, and because this happened to me this morning

so at 2 a.m with nothing else to think about, my random mind turned to the word "stable"

spent an hour trying to figure out that why is it when we are okay, we are described as stable?

what has us being okay got to do with a home for a horse

(the english language is certainly weird)

but come on people, i bet we've all wondered strange stuff.. post about them in here

Now you have me worry if the Latin was first than English. I know it was.
In Spanish, stable of horses is establo. Stable of people is estable.
I'm not going to say that English is a very poor languaje in vocabulary, but it is.
Good luck with your thoughts and keep us posted of your progress.

English may be complex and quirky, but it is very rich in vocabulary. Whether someone possesses the knowledge to avail themselves of that linguistic gold mine is another matter.

Give it to Stephen Fry, then sit back and listen to the music.

I love English. I love language! It's fascinating. Besides my native English, I've studied Russian, French, Spanish, and to a lesser degree Latin and Hebrew, with a brief foray into Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic). There are many flavors of wonderful.

Today's random thought: Why, oh why, with the level of technology available, does the "music" they play when you're on hold sound like it's coming out of a tin can with a case of the hiccups?! Oh to be a techie genius, and save the world from this scourge!

I once wondered how we came up with swear words. For example, how is the word "sh*t" a bad word, but poop isn't? It could easily be the other way around! And why do we have swear words to begin with? Is it because we need something to express our deep emotions? I don't get it.

English is so strange. We have to, too and two. How about read (current tense) and read (past tense) and then red (colour). All sound the same but different meanings.

But, I found French harder to learn because everything has a gender. Plus there might be a huge crowd of 10 million women, so they are referred to as Elle (they feminine), now add one man so 10 million women and one man, they now take on male gender Ils (they masculine)

Is Spanish like this?

I hate kale. My mom is bothering me about my diet and how I don't eat enough because I mostly just eat candy, and she made me this smoothie with kale in it, and I had to drink it. It was awful.

Ugh. Six months of my mom making me drink kale smoothies everyday!

She's making me take all these vitamins too and drink this weird stuff called chambucha or something like that. She says it'll make me feel better.

I hope it does.

A leafy green.

My mom has a ton of it growing in her garden right now. There are going to be many kale shakes in my future.
