Hello! I am wondering if anyone else is highly sensitive to noise, and if this has to do with being bipolar? Certain noises make me very angry and agitated.
I'll list a few things that bother me ALL the time:
Kids toys
loud noises/tv/kids crying
toy guns going off
fire works
2 liter pouring
smacking gun
horns!
loud breathing or chewing

Anyone else experience any of these?

I hear what you are saying. There are a lot of noises that bother me, especially the sound of cars passing by my house. Even though we live in a residential area of a very small coastal town, cars zoom by at the rate of five or six per minutes. Sometimes more. I hear every single one.

In my case, I think it has to do with anxiety and OCD more than with bipolar, but that is just a hunch. I started taking Latuda to help me with my anxiety and intrusive thoughts, and I was able to tolerate the noise of the cars much better. Now that I've quit taking the Latuda, I'm back to being annoyed every time a car goes by.

Good luck. I feel your pain.

I think if you were anxious or hypomanic noise would bother you. I know if I don't take my Adderall (for my ADD) I get noise sensitive to the point of pain.

I am very noise sensitive.
I've been told by pdocs my extreme noise sensitivity is due to the C-PTSD.
Maybe, maybe not?

I'm sensitive to noise, too. I think it is related to my C-PTSD and anxiety disorders.

OMG yes. I can't handle all the chatter at my office. People talk on the phone as though the louder they are the better the person on the other end hears them. People chat as though no one is working. It's very annoying!
I end up putting in the earbuds and cranking my tunes to drown it out.
I hate trying to talk over music that is openly playing....not a question of liking it or not.
I also can't stand whistling and tapping.
Funny that I get in my car and crank my tunes.
I have not a clue what sparked this.
Meds?

I am sensitive to certain noise. I dislike hearing people huff and puff, standing up and down, oh and the absolute worse one is my dogs licking or scratching themselves!

The sensitivity even has a name--hyperacuity. It's awful. My current AP actually helps with it as just a side benefit and I'm amazed how much easier the world is when every noise doesn't make me jump and stress me out.

Yes, this is a manic symptom for me. Sensory overload and all noises sound equally loud. It's awfull!

Yes, except when I listen to music through my head buds, then I have the volume all the way up (maybe cause I can control the noise, idk). But other noise I hate, like the TV being too high, the radio in the car being too loud, sirens, garbage trucks, etc. Plus I startle very easily so loud noise doesn't help that any.

It's raining hard here with thunder and lightning and it's making my skin crawl with how loud raindrops can be.

During mixed episodes I get very sensitive to noise, pretty sure the APs help me with that.

Repetitive sounds drive me straight up the wall. I'm also sensitive to loud noises and being startled. It's been better since I've been medicated though.

i can not (can not) stand the noise of babies crying.

i'm sorry, but i absolutely positively had to say that.

this is 1 of the reasons i don't have kids- they would not last a day.... and that's a fact.

i can't do loud noises.. things like the vacume, i can't even cope with

and obviously crouds and car noises (agoraphobia feelings triggered)

I feel the same way about babies.

My wife wants me to go to the movies all the time but I cannot stand the volume they are played at.

I have problems with loud noises, especially when they come from behind me. I just jump out of my skin. I think the AP has calmed it down somewhat.

How cool is this! I was trying to post the link to this thread, also, but couldn't find the conversation on the forum. (I put it in the HSP thread because I could find that one. )

I'm going to have to pay closer attention to when it is that I get sensitive. I hadn't ever linked it to my mental state.

Oh heck yeah I am very sensitive to sounds and especially when I am manic its even worse. I didn't know other people were like this. I get very overwhelmed if something is too loud like the TV or loud noises like a train. Thanks for the article it explains a lot of what I have been dealing with.
