I find I'm only really attracted to alcohol when I'm in an episode..

anyone else the same?

No. You are not the only one. I crave alcohol when in an episode.

I crave alcohol depending on how my day went and the external factors. I don't think it always correlates to a specific part of an episode - that's for me anyway

I drink mainly when I am really lonely and bored. Sort of how I feel like now. I think its my laziness that stops me from drinking, and the fact that I would have to hide it from my parents.

I used alcohol to numb my mind for almost my entire life. I have always been ostracized and bullied and was usually alone. Alcohol was also my self-medication for mental issues. Amazingly I did make it for 7 years without a drop. Now I only drink rarely when my wife is away.

I do, but I always wake with my mind lurching and shrieking louder than before. I can also feel out when I'm in an episode by my drinking. Normally I drink in healthy moderation. Manic, I drink like its my job. Depressed, I drink to be able to socialize.

When I'm all worked up and backed into a corner, maybe. I've lost the craving for it in general. But Monday I was so...I can't even think of the word...I just wanted to disappear. So I did, after taking a benzo. My Restoril for sleep. 15mg. I couldn't help it, that's how desperate I was. But no such cravings before or since then.

I've been using alcohol again pretty badly. Mostly i need it to sleep or just relax. I often smoke pot along with it too but it does make my paranoia worse. Like my bf and I will smoke on the way to dinner and after one drink at the restaurant I get obnoxious and loud or at least think I do lol. It's probably all in my head.

But yea a year ago I had to detox from alcohol in a hospital so as long as I don't get to that point again. I am ashamed for going back to it after being sober for almost year.

I used to but I got into trouble with it. I now don't drink because my liver is messed up. (Not from the drinking though.)

I use alcohol like I use food. I drink/eat when I'm up, when I'm down, and when I'm stable. When I feel great, I use it to celebrate. When I feel awful, I use it to feel better. I'm pretty good about sticking to a couple glasses of wine (or, alternatively, a cocktail or two) - I don't drink enough, most of the time, to feel it in the morning or even get more than a mild buzz.

I also use it as a social crutch when I'm depressed and have to go out.

I'll take a Xanax, which is a similar thing to do. Xanax surprisingly can help with hypomania for me, as well as anxiety, of course.

I tend to crave it more when I'm in a depressed state.

I have been there. How's your anxiety right now?

Some people are ok with some alcohol and bp and their pdoc says ok. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people.

I've gone most of my life with no interest in drinking.
This past year, I have drank intermittently. I enjoy a drink now and then.
I have had some very destructive active alcoholics on both sides of my family. I stay a bit vigilant about drinking because I am afraid of becoming an alcoholic.

I was feeling surprisingly good this morning. And with good I mean my mood was good.
I had half a bottle of red wine and a double whiskey. I guess that's not really considered too much then

I used to drink heavily in my early high school years, sometimes I still do it so I can sleep or get some sort of quiet for my mind. Unfortunately drinking has led to more dangerous things.
