Hi,

I'm running/walking my first half marathon in a month or so.
The last race I attended (10k) I had a huge panic attack and I ended up shaking and crying - and not being able to finish.
I am really afraid that my anxiety could ruin my next race also.... It is very very important to me to do this race. It is in another country with my bff and it really means a lot. It's something I've been wanted to do in a very long time.

I rarely take alprazolam (xanax), but I don't think it sedades my body or make me slow, it just calm my brain...

Have any of you used benzos before a race? Or any other workout/training?

Hope some of you have some advice

I took Ativan and often hiked up and down through the deep valley in my city. I found I enjoyed it more with the Ativan as I was stressed about meeting someone along the way. I also found that I slept far better the night after hiking.

Ativan was great for me in this respect.
Thanks for this!

I think it should be fine to take Xanax before a race, but you should definitely ask your pdoc to see what he/she says. You want to make sure that Xanax won't increase your heart rate or do weird things to your blood pressure. You also want to make sure it won't make you dizzy and faint.
Thanks for this!

Maybe keep it tucked away somewhere in your clothes until you need it, and then chew it up? You may be fine without it. Just an idea.

Thank you for your replies.
I'll goahead and ask my pdoc what she thinks. I think I'll also do a "test run" to see how my mind and body reacts when I run/walk a long distance while on alprazolam.

I hope I can just keep it in my pocket and only take it if I really need it.
