Have you had it?
And after quitting the offending drug, how long did it last?

I'm in my own personal hell over here, and I'm not sure what I'm in for. I've had it for a week and I quit the drug today. The doctor wanted me to keep taking it, but I was all, F*%# naw!

Oh god I hate when I get this. I always get it when I'm on too high of an AP dose. Ability did it to me pretty bad. I believe it took about 2 days after stopping the med. There's also meds out there like cogentin and gabapentin that are supposed to help. Good luck!

I got it really bad on latuda. It took about 2 days as well for me to get it to stop. Benadryl can help too. So sorry you're dealing with this. Hugs

I got that on ADs. Don't remember how long it took to stop. Back then the Pdocs claimed it was all in my head.

I got it on abilify badly it was awful, not being able to sit down for a moment. It drove me to distraction but stopped within days of lowering the dose.

Thanks guys!
I'm on geodon. I stopped taking it today and the akasthisia keeps getting worse. They put me on a blood pressure medicine that "should help" after days of Benadryl and Ativan. I'm just hoping to get through my work day tomorrow without feeling like I'm hallucinating, restless, or melting down.
I could barely function today.

Abilify and Haldol have been the biggest offenders for me in terms of akathisia. I remember being stuck in the hospital on Abilify without anything to counteract it. I was dying man.

Haldol is the worse for me. When I was on a high dose of it I couldn't even sit down for five seconds. It was so uncomfortable. Worse feeling ever. And nothing helped for it.

When I stopped it, I think it went away in a couple of days.

Both Abilify and Latuda gave me serious akathisia. When it struck with the Abilify (which wasn't right away) my psychiatrist gave me Cogentin. It worked beautifully but at a dose (3mg) that gave me vision side effects. The side effects and the akathisia went away quickly after I stopped. For the Latuda I take a systemic beta blocker, propranolol (80mg) and it stops it completely.

I wouldn't put much stock in Benadryl period. If your akathisia is serious even a benzodiazepine isn't going to help much. I've never heard of gabapentin being prescribed for akathisia.

I read a lot of National Institutes of Health (nih.gov) studies between Abilify and Latuda before I settled on propranolol. That turned out to be the most recommended drug at an effective dose. Another anticholinergic besides Cogentin is Artane, but less effective I think. But of course whatever's working for you.

I had it BAD on Latuda. I had been on the Latuda about 2 weeks when it slowly started. Then whammo I was crying in my car because I couldn't sit still. I called my pdoc and she wanted me to stay on it with Propranolol. I was like "NO!". So she said to stop cold turkey and then It lasted about two days. I feel your pain and it sounds like a alot of us do! Hang in there! It will get better! Hugs

How long has it been since you quit the med? You should call pdoc and ask for one of the meds we said that helped us here.

I had to mix 80mg propranolol with Cogentin. (With my psychiatrist's approval.) That worked for me at my very very worst (And you're right. It's godawful!)
