Just wondering...

For those of you who go on "shopping sprees" when hypo/manic, how much do you typically spend?

I know that everyone has their own idea of a "shopping spree". For some, this may be a couple hundred dollars; for others, this may be $20,000.

I typically spend about $1000 when hypo/manic, but I normally don't spend ANY money. I'll spend maybe $20 a week *max*, but averaging about $10 a week. (I live with my parents, so they buy all my food.) I mostly do impulsive shopping: I see something, then buy it 10 seconds later without a second thought.

What about you? What's the normal amount you spend a week, and what is your "manic" spending per week?

I tend to do this manic or not. I'm also BPD so there's an impulse control issue. There's a store by me that sells everything from makeup to phone accessories and clothes. Everything in the store is supposed to be under $5 and I blow $100 every time. Toys for the kids that they don't use. Cheap clothes I won't wear. Ugh. Don't get me started on the dollar stores either!

I've never been on a manic shopping spree, but I have been on a manic chopping spree. I took a hockey stick to the sheetrock in my garage a few years ago. That turned out to be more expensive than a shopping spree. I should have just gone to Macy's. Duh.

I used to spend hundreds of dollars at a time - on a daily basis so it really adds up. No really big ticket items, more like stuff like makeup (which I rarely wear!), clothing, shoes, and gadgets for my car/house. I don't do it anymore because the two cards that I have left are my regular debit card and my health savings account debit card. I also stay off the websites that make it tempting for me to spend and I stay out of stores unless there is something that I really need, like groceries.

I go between 5,000-10,000
In mere weeks. I don't make a lot of money sooo for me it's extreme.
I buy lots of the same items.

Because of my low income, I consider anything over $50 a shopping spree.

I have been on a few shopping sprees... usually they are around $200-$300. I don't think I've ever spent more than $500 at once (without planning for it, like a new phone) -- but as a poor college student that is a crazy amount for me!!
But usually instead of big shopping sprees, I spend a lot of money spread out over the whole hypomanic episode... I'm an impulsive shopper so I buy things as soon as I see them, I spend $20 there and $15 there and by the end of the episode it adds up to... I don't even want to think about it!

I hardly spend money on anything, normally. When hypo/manic it can go to $500 or more. I'm a clothes horse, so I buy the same thing in several colors if they have it. I also buy software for my computer so I can work on projects that I have normally have no inclination to do.

I splurged buying new uniforms when I was at my lowest weight then gained 20 pounds by eating and drinking excessively, now they don't fit.
I bought 350 bottles of nail polish because they were on sale and discontinuing them and I hate change... it was ridiculous. I have 100 bottles of bright orange that my 80-90 year olds would never wear!
sigh

I love to spend...especially when manic. I love to vintage and second hand shop, which definitely helps when the money inhibitions go away during episodes. I can end up with lots of stuff for very little money that way. So that's a blessing.

Jewelry and expensive watches are my shopping weakness when hypo manic. Most of the jewelry I have bought over the years has been sold to the local pawn shops. One month I bought a Tag Haur watch, to replace the one I had to sell a couple of years earlier, then I bought a Rolex two months later. I had it for about "five minutes" and then had to sell it. eBay is dangerous for me. I had to remove the app from my iPad.

I'm very low income but I go on book binges, just gotta get this one or that one they are the expensive nonfiction books about whatever subject has caught hold of me. I've a bunch of books about the De Medici's, a bunch on creation and folk stories, a bunch on symbols and their meanings, a bunch of ancient history and more on goddesses. I get caught up on one subject and go on a research binge. It would be great if the mania lasted long enough and if I had the attention to retain everything...but in the end I have a bunch of expensive half read, very highlighted non fiction books and a spotty memory of the subject.

I'm very low income too, and am also a research hound. Whatever topic grabs me. Mostly now I research online, which makes it one of the greatest inventions of all time! Because there's no NOW like a hypo/manic NOW is there?!

It used to be that I'd practically jump around waiting for the library to open! (Open, dammit! I need to clear your shelves!!!!!!!!! ) I'd like to recommend it though if you prefer actual books, Nammu, because the library's saved me a TON of money (assuming I would have had it to spend, lol). DVDs too. They don't have everything of course, and access and selection vary wildly depending where you are, but I'll throw it out there. It's amazing how often people forget the option.

When I had more, I spent more (oh, to have that money back...sigh). The worst one would probably be mid-aughts on ebay. Ridiculous things. Multiples of things (like a second copy of cds in case they got a scratch -- yeah, like I couldn't get one later when/if that actually happened, lol!) I was dx'd around that time (but afterwards), and that episode was really eye-opening. Being fresh in mind, I could remember the thoughts that were happening. The reasononing (justifications, rationalizations). So when I start hearing those now, I can recognize it for what it is, and head it off (most of it anyway ) So they are not nearly the problem they used to be.

I can't really answer the question because I don't think in those terms, but basically... I do not like to shop. I am very good at it, but no fan. (Haha, just realized I'm wearing a skirt that gets complimented regularly. I paid 25 cents for it. So like the kind of good where no one would ever realize how poor I am.) So if I start to WANT to shop, or <gasp!> get multiple colors or atypical styles, the alarm goes off and hypomanic watch kicks in.

P.s. It doesn't hurt that no one in their right mind would issue me a credit card.

Library books wouldn't work for me since I mark them up with highlights and writing all over them.

I often have this idea that I'd became a famous etsy designer. So I buy some new yarn for to-be projects. That maybe 10-20 eurs. For each time. Now I have a couple of square meters at my home to add them up to the collection.
When my aparel buying mode clicks in I could spend 100-200 eur. That's much for my budget. At best it's wearable. At worst it's skirt too short, bright yellow top and all that 1-2 sizes too small.

When i used to get hm i used to splurge on clothes, mostly. Very inappropriate stuff like for a rock star. All of it needed special washing and laundry is a crisis for me. I'd spend about $500. I'd end up donating it after it had hung around my closet for enough time to convince me that, no, i'm not gonna wear that hot pink feather boa.

Around 1000 CZK (about 50 euro or less)... in two euro eyeshadow pallets containing purples, pinks and yellows, leopard print anything, beads, asian food, art supplies, body glitter.

This at once. I go on serial sprees though.

On my travels I spend money on "oh, so you are a refugee/you have war in your country? Sure I will buy that bracelet you made, key chain made of empty bullet shell (which I cannot even use... because it's just creepy), or that humongous tie dye blanket with elephants on it...."

Don't forget here in new Europe the exchange rate is much much much much different, I am not really a materialistic girl.... well, at least most stuff I own is kinda... bohemian and crazy.
