I've always been curious about you guys: what is your current job? If you're on disability, what was the last job you had? If you're a student, what do you plan to do?

Do you actually *like* your job? (If you're on disability, did you like your last job?)

I'm a software engineer and I like my job because I can work wherever I want whenever I want, as long as I get the job done. It's low stress for me

I'm on disability but my last job was as a computer programmer. I liked the creative part of it. I wrote small-scale database apps. I got many compliments on my intuitive interfaces. One executive said my app on the network was the only thing that made sense. This was back in the days of DOS.

I am an occupational therapist. I haven't worked in just about 5 years now. I miss it every day.

I love my job! I work for the APA in PsycINFO. Currently I'm in the PsycTESTS database and I have to write descriptions for and summarize psychometric results of tests that are developed within studies. Sounds boring, but I like reading all the various studies that psychologists create, it's the psychometrics that drive me crazy. Some of the tests are quite bizarre, but interesting.
Plus I like how flexible they are, great benefits, and I work from home most of the week.

It's a great field. Interesting, rewarding, fun, pays great, tons of jobs. I still get recruited at least weekly after 5 years of asking to be taken off recruiting lists. I can't imagine having done anything else although another career route might have kept me working longer (other decisions in my life and employment might have mattered too).

Yeah, that's what I love about programming! It lets me show my creative side.

Sounds like your job was fun. (Well, I think it would've been fun. )

My job flexibility is why I'm able to work.

I used to work for a government contractor... There were so many rules, and you had to work excessive hours. Even worse, you were poorly compensated for the amount of work you had to put in. The company really overworked its employees.

I just couldn't cope with having to leave the house at 8am and come back at 7pm. I had no personal life. That's mainly why I quit after 5 months on the job.

Exactly, my last job I was a government contractor. In DC there are the federal employees versus the contractors, and of course the contractors got the short end of the stick while the feds could do whatever they wanted. But the job I had before I would bust my *** and I got paid peanuts. However I stayed there four years because it was an okay job to have while I was in school.

I'm a high school English teacher. I love teaching but I hate where I work. I'm looking for something else. We'll see what comes up.

I have my own business as a music teacher. I have been toying with the idea of changing careers, though. I LOVE teaching music, but I don't love the ups and downs of business and not knowing how much my income will be from month to month. I also want a normal 9-5 schedule. We'll see if I can find something to switch to (I currently have a lead).

I'm on disability and haven't worked in two years. My last job was as a nursing home surveyor working for the state government; before that I was the nursing services director for a large assisted living community. I've also worked in medical/surgical nursing, mother-baby, and ICU.

Student (applied computer science) and part-time software tester.

I am free in my schedule. I can work 30h/week one month and 10h/week the next as long as I get an average 20h/week over the year
It's a fun, varied and creative job, but university and child are a bit overwhelming from time to time.

Then again sometimes it's not enough to do

i was always going to be a computer programmer (well, when i was little, that's what i imagined i'd do)
things have changed though- and i'm no longer interested in that stuff.

i don't work presently, but because i sometimes get embarrassed by it i tell people i'm a vet (it can't hurt too much, right?)

and i do like animals. so..

I'm on disability now. I do a three time each week radio show on Party Central Radio as Wordrider (if anybody's interested). I used to work as executive assistants in various offices and I usually enjoyed my work, but the interoffice politics were the death of me.
Thanks for this!

Been on disability for 4 years. Haven't worked in 6.

My health has improved significantly. As a way of transitioning back into the workforce I have begun to volunteer on an ocassional basis.

In the summer I'm a ride operator at an amusement park and the rest of the time I'm in college studying to become an environmental scientist.
