I just now finished watching Love and Mercy, the story of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. I was very moved emotionally by this film. The format was a bit hard to follow, with two different time periods alternating. But there were some scenes that really felt real to me. There's one scene that really strikes me in my present state of being nibbled to death by clutter at home, and rattled terribly by noise and motion outside in the city where I live. That scene really validated me. See, Brian is at a celebratory dinner party for a new hit recording. The dinner is festive, and people are eating. The sound track "gets into Brian's head" and gradually you hear the sound of cutlery on plates getting louder and louder, till that is all he hears! Clatter, clatter, clatter -- louder and louder till he cries out "STOP!!!" Another thing that interested me was the psychologist who essentially held Brian prisoner. I read a blog by Donna Anderson called LoveFraud, about sociopaths and how they manipulate people. That psychologist fit the profile and behavior of a sociopath. Melinda, the car saleswoman, is absolutely an amazing person!!!!! For real! Read about her in Brian Wilson's wikipedia page. Good movie, imho.
Thanks for this!

Have you seen the NAMI poster "People with mental illness enrich our lives"? I have it up on my wall and have added to it. Thelonius Monk, Tipper Gore, Nina Simone, and Billie Burke (Glinda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz). https://www.google.com/search?q=post...pRT2aKGx8kM%3A

When I watched it, I really felt the pain that was evident in the dinner party scene. All of the noise reaching inside of you and shredding your being.

Does anyone relate to the paranoia in the pool scene? The scene where Brian begs the band to move into the deep end of the pool because Phil Spector had his house bugged?

Angelique67 Thanks for the compliment and link. I'm positive that the movie list was here at the bipolar forum, because it was bipolar movies. Does anyone know how to search for it? I posted a new list of bipolar movies here yesterday, as well.
Thanks for this!

I got it from my library and watched it over weekend. They left out part where he was on drugs like cocaine, guess they figured part about being in bed for 3 yrs enough to need intercession from therapist. If he was just psychologist how would he have control over meds then. Aldo found it interesting that they made point of saying schizophrenia was misdiagnosis--elsewhere I saw that it was schizoaffective and this was first place where saw it was bipolar. I guess schizophrenia would have more serious prognosis than other two.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
