Generic lamictal: $350
Gabapentin: $160
lorazepam: $18
propranolol: $16

Those are the costs of my medications without insurance. (Forgot to ask about haldol, but I'm on that too.)

My doctor's office only gave me samples of gabapentin and haldol. And with the gabapentin they only gave me a weeks worth.

I applied for state insurance, but I'm worried I'm not going to get it.

If, for whatever reason, I don't get state insurance, what do you guys think I should do?

I would say I'm freaking out, but I'm really not. I'm still in shock that generic lamictal is $350 without insurance. I was thinking it was going to be more in the hundred range, like gabapentin.

Should I start weaning off my medication?

I just need enough to wean off of it. With lamictal I need at least a month. I've weaned off it before. It sucked. But I was able to do it in a month. And since I have zero responsibility right now I can lay in bed moaning and twitching all day while I'm going through withdrawal.

The reason why I want to wean off this stuff is because it's so much without insurance! I can't afford this ****. I hate being dependent on stuff that's so expensive.

If you go off your meds, will that affect your probation period? Wouldn't you be in trouble for noncompliance? Not to mention the fact that it probably won't help you get well and get back to your husband. Check the drugs' websites. They may have patient assistance or something like that to help you.

I do understand where you're coming from but I don't think med free is a good idea for you right now. You just came off a serious attempt and as you say, you feel you are at rock bottom. Why make it even worse with med withdrawal and a possible return of symptoms? There's got to be a way to get your meds.

I'll try goodrx. But I can't afford anything that's over the fifty dollar range. So this stuff is going to have to cost fifty dollars or less.

If I get in trouble for being non med compliant I'm going to ask them what the hell they expect me to do.

rxoutreach.com lamictal is $30 for 90 day supply. Gabapention $25 for up to 275 capsules lower doses, $45 for 270 tabs higher doses. I don't see haldol on there (check www.xubec.com and goodrx.com) but I don't know how to spell the generic. I didn't look for the lorazepam or propanolol.

Imo, taking your meds should be a top priority. Hopefully you will qualify for Medicaid. I don't see how you wouldn't, honestly. Please stay on your meds....

Go to a public clinic that is an outreach program for the financially disabled. They should have insurance at no cost to you once they accept you into their program. Then meds will all be at no cost to you. Neither will the doctor visits. This is what I do.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I have fantastic news!

I went to my old pharmacy, where they know me, and with a store discount I was able to get my gabapentin for $35. And lamictal is $48! I can't get the lamictal right now because I don't have that money, but at least I was able to get the gabapentin, and at least this is reasonably affordable!

I love my normal pharmacy. This is a hug for my pharmacy.

And I got my printer hooked up finally so I can print out those discounts from goodrx, etc.

Yep, there are all kinds of med discounts. Some years ago Seroquel was very expensive...I had no insurance at the time. I looked on the drug manufacturer's website and was able to get the Seroquel 100% free.

I discovered the same thing at my pharmacy. I lost my med coverage through a bureaucratic screw up and went to my pharmacy in a panic. They were nice enough to set me up with their own system, and it turns out my med coverage was only saving me twenty five dollars a month and giving me a lot of hassle.

Regular pharmacies are the bomb and I'm glad it worked out for you!!
Thanks for this!

Yeah. I'm definitely staying at my normal pharmacy. They all know me, and the pharmacist is great and always makes sure I great the right generic lamictal.
