How many of you use food (or a lack of food) as a coping mechanism? I see a lot of people here who might use it to cope, even though increased hunger can be due to meds.

For example, maybe you cope by eating lots of Domino's pizzas because they just make you feel better, even though they may make you gain a lot of weight. (e.g., Eating domino's several days in a row.)

For me, I actually cope by eating junk food sometimes! It's not the amount of food per se, but the type of food.

hi.

i didn't notice you were back (yay, welcome back!)

as for your question, i don't see my food eating as a coping method- i do it because i'm just really bad at binging, and most of the time i don't even know how much i've eaten- i'll say to myself i'll eat a couple cookies for example, then before i know it i've eaten 5 boxex

not sure about it helping me cope

Im a total junkie for junk food but surprisingly have cut it down over the last few days, i would eat chocolate & chips every night. I will usually literally eat until i pass out once the seroquel hits -_-

I just ate almost a whole big bag of potato chips & i feel so ashamed of myself, i cut my eating very dramatically also over the last few days...i actually cant remember the last time i had a proper meal, maybe 4-5 days i guess -_-

I used to use food for pleasure and out of boredom. These past six weeks i've adopted a healthy lifestyle and now i get pleasure out of losing weight and i've got my food diary and exercising to bust my boredom. Also, i'm working to get my high-blood pressure down so that means cooking at home so that's a new activity too, plus monitoring it at the drugstore machine. Doing the dishes is not so bad.

I mostly eat out of boredom as well. I need to be doing something and stock up on healthy snacks.

When I'm depressed I definitely use food as comfort. I'll buy the chocolate chip cookies from McDonald's or indulge in a candy bar or something else high calorie and high fat. No doubt about it.
