I have been trying different treatments ranging from therapy to a plethora of medications. I am a 36 y/o female diagnosed at 11.I also have Complex PTSD, ADD, OCD, Epilepsy, and parasomnias they don't even have terms for yet.

I am tired...what is the difference between taking drugs that don't work, but give you horrible side effects.....or just not taking them at all?

It took me 70 med combinations (dose changes not included) and well over 40 meds to find something that works. It's not perfect but it does work and my cycling is mild compared to before now. It took going to the "last resort" drug, clozaril, but clozaril helps me, especially combined with gabapentin (which I used to take without thinking it did much.Weird.). I have a mild depression going now and that's the only "big" (it's not very big) thing I've had since starting it in February.

I know how hard it is and how frustrating when meds don't work and then it compounds the frustration when that happen repeatedly but the right combination is out there, it just takes time to find it. And that is so hard but it's worth it.

Hello OnTheVerge: I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. Med's have never done much of anything for me either. I don't take them anymore. As a result I have had to find other ways to deal with my mental health issues. The difference between taking med's that don't work but create difficult side effects versus not taking med's at all can be a devil's choice, so to speak.

I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here.
