So, I went to see Billy Joel in concert last night at Wrigley Field. This is the first concert I've attended since my diagnosis and I'm not sure if it's the meds or just a sign/symptom of BP2, but the noise level was really getting to me. I found myself having to just walk away a few times to get away from it all. This makes me sad and angry because I love going to concerts. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this sort of thing? I guess I could always bring ear plugs, but then I'm afraid people will question me as to why I'm at a concert with ear plugs. Ugh.

Some people might look at you and wonder, but so what? You wouldn't be the only person with earplugs, I've seen it before. Concert volume is so high I think most people would understand.

Did you otherwise enjoy the concert? I would imagine him to put on a good show.

...and now I've got "Piano Man" stuck in my head.

I had the same experience when i went to see Matthew Good a couple years ago. He's a favorite Canadian alt rocker of mine. I found it deafening! I prayed for it to be over. I don't know why i didn't just leave. Last concert you'll catch me at!

It was an amazing show definitely, except for the extremely drunk gal in front of me *insert side eye*

I get a headache if I don't wear ear plugs to a concert.

I was 10 years old when my parents brought me to some stupid American Idol concert that I never wanted to go to. I had no ear plugs and I got a massive headache that made me nauseous. Then my parents, being the idiots they are, told me to suck it up or leave, so I left. Then they freaked out because they didn't think I would leave, and then they had to to go find me.

I've had ear surgery in the past, so anything loud hurts my ears and gives me a headache -- hence earplugs.

I don't think it's weird to wear ear plugs.

I can relate to that. Since I've been put on medication I only ever listen to music on my mp3 player at about half the volume than before.

somehow concerts are one of the few chaotic noisy places I can be comfortable in..put me in a restaurant with a crying baby and loud talking neighbors and I have to get up and walk outside for a while. I went to a casino one time and it was so overwhelming that I was having to go into the bathroom several times to just sit and calm down. too much noise, people, colors, lights. It was awful I will never do that again!
depending on the venue, ear plugs are probably not a bad idea anyway, some have terrible acoustics that make your ears hurt and ruin the music.

Restaurants and crying babies are a bad combination for me as well. I generally love going to concerts so I was kinda surprised at how I was reacting.

Yep, he's still touring

He's actually played at Wrigley Field alot over the last few years, but this was my first opportunity to ever see him in concert.

I usually attend lots of concerts.
Many people use earplugs. They adjust how much the earplug fills each ear, like adjusting volume. It's quite common to see earplugs at concerts.

I'll be Billy Joel was great! I have all of is recordings.

Glad you were able to see him!

Ok, so maybe it isn't so weird after all. I mean, I do wear them at night because I am such a light sleeper that the littlest noise can wake me up (even with meds).

I am also ultra-noise sensitive.
I am much more sensitive without meds though.
If my c-PTSD is flaring, noises entirely overwhelm me.

I cannot tolerate lots of restaurants. Between the loud music and the crowd, wow! I am also a migraineur, which can play a part in noise sensitivity.

I am sorry this has changed for you and is now a problem.
