I've gained more than 35lbs on Seroquel and am now trying desperately to lose weight. Yet no matter what I do - eat well, exercise daily - I seem to gain weight.

Has anyone managed to lose weight on Seroquel? How?!

I've lost 10.6 pounds in seven weeks and i'm on Seroquel. I use a free online food diary and keep it to 1200 to 1500 calories a day. I eat lots of veggies and aim for 30+ grams of fiber a day. I walk for over an hour a day with my four-legged personal trainer. Losing weight is mostly what you eat and just a small fraction exercise. I've heard it's as little as 10% exercise. I'm doing better focussing on restricting what i eat rather than others who are exercising vigorously. I only weigh myself once a week, on the same day, first thing in the morning, using the same scale. I don't drink alcohol. It piles on the pounds. I use a cute little circular food scale i got at Walmart for $20. It's good for pasta and rice which are deceptively fattening and the calories really add up.

I won't kid you -- dieting [or more accurately: 'lifestyle change'] is hard work. The Seroquel pounds are stubborn. In dieting during my pre Seroquel days i lost twice the weight for half the effort.

We have a thread going called 'diet anyone?' where several of us are supporting each other thru weight loss. Why don't you join us?

Yes, the diet thread is nice.

But also, what about using a food journal? Write down everything you eat and get the calories (e.g., CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more). Then you can write down your weight the next morning to see if you've gained/lost/neither. Also, try: 600 Exercises: How Many Calories Are You Burning?

At least that's what I would do. Then you can see how many calories you need a day to maintain your weight: Calorie Calculator

So basically... as long as you don't exceed that # of calories, you should lose weight (in theory).
Thanks for this!

I appreciate the post and suggestions, too - this is an issue I've also dealing with. Wanted to say, also, that you might talk w/your psych dr about this. Perhaps they can give you some other options, that might work as well for you as Seroquel? At least can give you some pros/cons of possibly switching meds, weight gain risks, etc.

Take care

I lost on Seroquel. Didn't gain any weight. I don't eat much so that's why/how.
