How much is IP for you? I've never gone to IP because it's $750 *a day* with my insurance. So 1 week in IP would cost me over $5000, which is absurd! My insurance sucks!

There have been plenty of times where I should have gone, but did not go.

I'm just curious about you guys. I want to see how awful my insurance is or isn't.

And how do you even pay back that money? It's so much!

Wow. That astounds me! In Canada you don't pay for admission or treatment to any inpatient facility. I'm sorry it's such a barrier for so many people to get treatment in the United States.

I'm retired military, so my insurance pays for what Medicare doesn't. One benefit that the government hasn't messed up.

If I remember right, it runs close to $1000/day with meds, etc. I have good insurance, so I used to just pay like 10%, so my out-of-pocket was usually around $1500/admission. Hospital let me pay that out like $50/month. I think they even just wrote some of it off without even sending it to collections since they had gotten the rest of the bill paid in full by insurance. I was never bothered about bills; I guess they were happy they got the vast majority of it paid -- yes, I like that hospital. I haven't gone in a few years.

I have no idea what it would be, I'm between insurance at this time. On my last insurance a combination of Medicare and Medicaid I would have paid nothing, but I have nothing I'm on SSDI. If your insurance is treating inpatient mental health care differently than medical inpatient I think that's supposed to be illegal now under the ACA. The last time I had regular insurance though work my inpatient stay was about $3000 and that was about 10-15 yrs ago.

About $3000 overall.

And yes that's with insurance.

Not sure, never been inpatient. But I have a high deductible and coinsurance, so I'd probably be looking at thousands of dollars out-of-pocket. Which is one reason I don't go.

I'm in the uk so IP would, in theory, be free ...

But I'd rather ...... Than go to one of those places, or any hospital in fact

Sorry, this isn't exactly uplifting. But if we can't be honest here, then I guess where can we
I have yet to find a therapist or pdoc I can trust

I'm $2200 in debt to a PHP program I was in for 21 days last November and December, it went to collections, thanks to my Dads crappy insurance and the not taking straight Medicaid. The program altogether was around $6300, so $300 a day. Insurance paid all but $2200 (I might be more in debt, idk though).

Are you talking crisis stabilization IP or residential IP where you are stable but still unwell?

For me, crisis stabilization was a couple of thousand. For residential IP, it was $20,000 a week as my thirty days insurance coverage for IP had already been used up. (Bad year.)

You ok? xo

Hmm, I have no insurance and Kansas has no medicaid for low income. Maybe this helps dispel my fear of a T trying to lock me away. Just show him my empty wallet and like magic I'm not that bad of shape.

I have a $2000 deductible that is met in the first two months of the year so when I went it was free. Well unless you count the two months of work I missed.

I've already met my deductible for the year so I would have to pay 20% and insurance pays the rest.

I have medical aid so I get 21 days a year for free at any private hospital or private psychiatric hospital for my diagnosed mental illness. If I need additional days my psychiatrist can write a letter to my medical aid and request more. One day amounts to about R3800, converted to dollars would be $270.

If you don't have medical aid you go to a public mental health institution. If you have to be admitted involuntarily it is free. Otherwise you are liable for payment in terms of the uniform patient fees schedule and it is roughly R200 per day - $14. But I have worked at some of those institutions... and you really don't want to go there...

I have a fairly good cigna plan. The deductible is hi 1,500 which is normally met in the first few months covering p-doc,t, and regular dr . plus meds. After that it is 20%t m with an out of pocket maximum of 5,000-never met that. I have money deducted from my pay check into a healthcare savings account that my employer also pays into. All my healthcare costs are taken out of this account so that my family feels 0 affects on our household account. I recommend a plan like this if it is available to any one in the upcoming open enrollment periods. It really helps me not feel so guilty for all this money spent trying to keep me out of the hospital.
Thanks for this!

Geesh wish it were free. I'm struggling to make my $50 a month payment plan and they'll probably send it to collections

Free in the public hospital for as long as you need and is a good facility. And $500 for an unlimited time at a very nice private hospital where my insurance covers the rest.

The US medical system really scares me. Everyone can go to hospital here, for any reason, for free.
