I've been feeling damn good since my hospitalization (despite some kind of manic moments). Focused, love my work again, huge improvement in relationship to my wife, normal response to stress. Hope is on the horizon. I'm just pissed about a couple of things. One.. is I wish my Dad would have known about his disorder.. so that I could have seen it coming. Two... I'm pissed that I wasted 5 years being brushed off by a few counselors as ADHD and .. here.. have some methamphetamines. Which DID NOTHING. Made things worse? Maybe. I don't know.

Anyway... the real gist here.. frustration aside.. is HOPE.

I've got a dual diagnosis of BP and ADHD. Vyvanse pretty well takes care of the attention and hyperactivity, without giving me the liftoff and crash that Ritalin and Adderall did.

It also seems to be pretty compatible with the other BP meds.

Okay... I never really thought of myself as ADHD until this counselor (MS level... social worker) suggested it based on my patterns of extreme changes in interests, frequent job changes, financial problems, etc... with episodes of depression. I went in there for help with depression and it was a 'free' consultation available to the spouses of people who work for the local hospital. He sent the recommendation to my general practice doctor.. and adderall. And that was it. I never had problems with hyperactivity and attention as a school kid. Just a WAY over active imagination. Anyway... I just feel like the right questions were not asked. I remember he asked me if I ever felt like 'superman'. Well... that didn't really strike a chord. I guess I took it too literally. :-) Now if I would have been asked if I sometimes felt way overconfident getting into things that I had no prior experience with followed by money spending. Not to mention sexual escapades. Well... things might have went differently.

The interesting thing is that since I've started lamictal and zoloft... I'm way more focused. I honestly think that whenever I have an attention deficit... it's when I'm depressed. Nothing really holds my interest.

My old pdoc put me on vyvanse for binge eating even though I'm severely underweight. It got very ugly. I'm now highly against using stims for BP.

Wow... I lost a lot of weight when I started adderall (until it subsided into the background and did nothing). I can imagine how that would be an issue for an already underweight person!

So.. a side topic here. Since the meds (Lamictal and Zoloft) seem to be working... do they 'wear off' eventually??
