this is my latest coping thing that works for me.

buying sets of stuff (like board games or even dvds or ornaments), just so that when i'm angry and need to let my frustration out, I let it out on an item rather than myself (it sometimes works).

of course, the downside to this is that i spend a lot of money on it- but i now have a destroy cupboard

who else has, in the past, done this. (maybe you still do?)

I do!
Mostly dishes. Sometimes in anger, sometimes for fun. It's a great release. Though the noise has led to interesting visits from the police. buying stuff just to instantly destroy it

Pro tip: do your destruction shopping at the dollar store

Do you rip it or burn it or wut?
Have you ever swallowed the dice? I would have a hard time completely destroying it without swallowing the dice

I used to do it a lot, but after you get caught doing it and people call the police it ain't as much fun. I never bought anything for the purpose, usually tore up my own things that I needed. After breaking all the windows out of my car years ago, I decided to tone it down. I might throw something or kick a door open now and then.

I don't know if this would be as satisfying but my therapist used to have my tear up phone books. Every page was shredded as small as possible and I would do it for hours sometimes. I don't even remember now the feelings that went into that; meds have calmed it. But that was his replacement for breaking dishes which he felt was dangerous.

I so want to do this, but last time my mother started screaming to lock me away in the asylum, my dad got super mad and threatened to kick me out the house and call the police, I'm an angry person, I've been depressed for almost six months and I think mixed episodes in between, I can't even tell anymore!!

On a similar note, I have boxing gloves and I punch stuff with them. The act of punching is relieving for me.

Phone book sounds like a good idea since it's rather harmless. 99% of people don't use those things anyways. Nowadays, all your friends' numbers are online somewhere... Facebook, WhitePages, Google, LinkedIn, etc etc. Or you just text someone to get someone else's number. yay technology

Good point; my therapist did recommend that a long time ago. But yes, we still get 2 phone books per year here. They just dump them in our driveway. One is both yellow and white pages and one is yellow pages only.

We keep them for no good reason.

it's been so long since i've seen a phonebook.

the fact you still get 2 a year is surprising

but, then I suppose, their are always going to be people who can't get online (elderly, not in an internet area, that kind of thing)

but that percentage is probably really really tiny. I know my nan has no internet where she is, but that's the only person I can think of who has no connection

I live in a very rural, high poverty area. That may be part of it. There are people here who don't have running water or electricity so the internet wouldn't be something they have. Plus it's not that expensive to print when a 2 county volume is not 1/2" thick.
