I'm on olanzapine and wondering what others have experienced. For me it was just weight gain.

It increased my appetite but it also calmed me down a lot. If it weren't for the weight gain I'd still be on it.

It chilled me out big time. Too much. I slept 14hrs a day and my range of emotional expression was flat. And I gained 25 lbs which I haven't lost to this day.

But at the time it was what I needed; it knocked me out of my mixed episode/suicidality and onto my arse.

It made me gain a lot of weight as well as a decreased libedo but it worked well for me for a long time... Till I was diagnosed with Tardive Disconesia . That shook things up a bit.

I've been on it for a long time and I can honestly say that it's the glue that holds me together. I tried going off of it once and suffered greatly, despite the fact that I'm on several other drugs for BP. I'm only on 5 mg but it's enough to keep me very stable. I did gain weight on it in the beginning, but have lost it all and more besides. (That's because my husband passed away a couple of months ago and I lost my appetite, which hasn't returned.) But even if I hadn't been able to lose that weight, it would be worth it to me to stay on Zyprexa indefinitely.
