I'm new here. Bipolar 1. 2016 has been a bizarre year for me and I am scheduled to do a second IOP round this week. I spent all my money and have been hypersexual. I've been taking only part of my meds like every other day and have been missing insulin shots and other vital diabetes meds.

Can I get stabilized and back on meds more effectively as an in patient? Things are a total mess and I am not sleeping or bathing....ugh. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to PC.

From what you describe, you may be more quickly regulated via IP care.

IOP takes a certain level of functionality to attend daily, do the homework, etc. Some IOPs are quite demanding.

Are you up to doing IOP at this point or do you need more support in stabilizing meds, etc?

WC
Thanks for this!

Thank you for writing back. I can't manage my meds now at all. I am overwhelmed. I take 5 psych drugs and like 7 for diabetes, blood pressure and thyroid. I think I might go to the ER.

Mania is a bish.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there - you're not taking your meds regularly and are likely to take longer to stabilise. And you're definitely displaying symptoms of being in a mood episode.

If you're not able to self regulate your med intake it might help to look at other options.

Good to see you here on PC!

IP or IOP?

Thank you. I tried to reply but it didn't show up, so if I end up with multiple posts, sorry!

I think I am going to ask to be admitted. There is an excellent psych hospital one hour away, and I might go to their ER. I'm on 5 psych meds, 2 diabetes meds. 2 insulins, thyroid (from lithium) and a blood pressure pill. I'm out of whack.

I am scheduled to do IOP at a closer hospital, but I don't have a lot of faith in them.

I feel odd. Tired and wired.

Welcome to PC!

It sounds like you need a more structured environment than what you would get from IOP.

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide,

Welcome to PC! I'm sorry you're having such a hard time right now. It sounds like IP would be a good option for you. The structure would help you get your meds back on track and then you might start feeling better.

Hi. I am doing much better than when I posted Monday. I did go to the psychiatric ER, but I had a negative experience and received no treatment. Whoever was in charge of verifying insurance made a mistake and insisted that their hospital was out of network and not covered by my insurance. I told them I had received treatment there 2 years ago, and that I doublechecked my coverage before I made the 1.5 hour drive up there.

I received no treatment or medication. I was not suicidal but I was not in a good state. The doctor told me that my insurance company wouldn't "play ball," and to have a safe drive home.

I also told them I am diabetic and hadn't taken insulin for days. They waited 3 hours to check my blood sugar.

I made a complaint to their patient rights department. I am just really frustrated. It's Friday and I still don't have my prescriptions. I saw my regular doctor last night and he is getting me back on Latuda (for some reason my insurance denied this in August even though I've been on it a long time) and increasing Lithium from 450 to 650. He didn't call in the medicine to my pharmacy, though, so that's not good...ugh

Thank you for listening. I am glad I found this board!
