Since 2 days I can't sleep anymore. Still I am fit during daytime, a little bit groggy but not tired enough to take a nap. I hope I can sleep tonight but I thought the same last night after skipping a night of sleep. I have been using benzos lately and increased dosage. I can't even remember which dosage, 20mg temazapam at night and during daytime 2 doses of 25mg oxazepam. During 6 weeks I guess. Dit I already develop dependency and now I am off of it I get severe insomnia? If so, how long will it last? Even last night I took 2 doses of 12,5mg oxazepam but still could not sleep. However we are tapering the sertraline (zoloft) and risperidone. I still take my mirtazapine (remeron) and lamotrigine. How can I be so off balance suddenly after spending almost 24 hours in bed for the past 6 weeks? Am I becoming hypo and how many days can one stay without sleep? This is the first time ever that this happened to me, even in my worst mania I could manage to sleep at least one hour.
I forgot that we started abilify since we lowered the dosage of risperidone. But all those are supposed to stabilize right and lowering an antidepressant (came from 100 now on 50mg) besides all the rest, can it trigger this?
Sorry for the many questions, Im kinda hyper.

I e-mailed her, waiting for reply. She might not be in today.

call the office and speak to them. There should always be a pdoc available for emergencies. The staff may need to call her. That is what happens when my pdoc is off.

She called me back. I should take oxazepam 25mg or if needed 50mg. If I still can't sleep we have contact tomorrow.

I'm sorry your going through this. I'm going through the same thing but have a pdoc appt in a few hours. I'm going to ask for a higher seroquel dose and a new benzo that will actually work. This is frustrating I know! Ever try taking 450mg of seroquel and NOT sleeping?! Yuck!

I've been through something similar so I feel for you.

I believe meds including benzos and sleeping meds do destroy the body's ability to sleep. I've known people on other forums who ran out of meds who didn't sleep for days.

From what I've read in health books, a lot of meds deplete the body's store of magnesium that is needed for sleep. What you might try is soaking in epsom salts to absorb some magnesium sulfate and see if that helps you sleep. Be sure and buy a brand that is designed for soaking, and use a lot. You want to soak for at least 20 minutes. Take some calcium, vitamin D3 and K along with it as the 4 nutrients work together.

It took me at least 4 years to find out that low magnesium levels was one of the main reasons I couldn't sleep after going off meds. I also had high cortisol levels in the afternoon and evening [if you're tired during the day and energized at night, it's high cortisol levels] so I take a supplement called Seriphos to lower my cortisol. Between that and the magnesium, I now sleep through the night 5 nights a week.

Finally I could sleep last night, with the help of 25mg oxazepam though. I slept like 13 hours, hope to get some tonight.
