Weight gainers! So far I haven't gained anything...in fact I've still lost 2 lbs but I am concerned as I have been eating perfectly well and exercising. I was losing 1 to 2 lbs a week. That changed with the addition of Seroquel...BOO!!! I have taken Navane for months and no issue but my pdoc is planning to add Depacote. That makes me very concerned. My pdoc told me to cut my antidepressant in half when I was out of my mind manic but I was too afraid to do it. I won't survive another depression like the last one and so far I have avoided the dreaded crash. My pdoc says when patients have psychotic symptoms, and especially since I am still paranoid, that she generally decreases the antidepressant but since I am on my way to sanity she said it is fine to leave it alone. She said that everytime I become full blown manic, it leaves the equivelent of a scar on my brain that can cause cognitive decline and may lead to a greater risk of dementia and alziemers disease. Anyway, anyone take several weight gainers at the same time and still lose weight? Anyone take several sedatives and still stay awake? I am likely getting a part time job as well and will need to function and stay awake. My pdoc said I can stretch out my seroquel to 3xs a day. Will that help?

I used to work while taking doses of several sedatives that my family doctor said he hadn't seen someone awake while taking just one of the meds at those doses, not 3. I don't really have tips aside from Nuvigil/Provigil. Those helped quite a bit.

I lost weight on a several weight gainers but I was on an AD that caused me to lose weight so that doesn't really count. If you do start gaining you can ask about metformin. I'm taking it at a low dose and have lost about 7 lbs. in 2 months (but a few weeks I was eating really unhealthily while battling kidney stones so it might have been a little more). It's a drug for diabetes but works for weight loss from APs. I want to try a higher dose and have permission if I check my blood sugars but my family dr is worried that it will lower my BS too much since it was fairly low to begin with. But it is working, just slowly.

I can't really answer your question. With one sedative I often have trouble staying awake. I can't imagine several(!) But never mind my useless answer, I just wanted to say it's good to see you and that it sounds like you are doing pretty well.

I've been on seroquel for 12 years and never gained. I just lost 5lbs on 450mg...BUT... I restricted big time. Like nothing but protein shakes. And the sedation is bad. I drink energy drinks all day long. I'm actually waiting for my pdoc to call me back so I can ask to be put back on a stimulant. Drinking caffeine all day with IBS... not fun lol.

That's intense. I can't do seroquel, so I take Abilify. I take 2 anti-epileptics, but mine aren't too sedating (Trileptal and low dose Lamictal). Even then, I need relatively high dose (400mgs) Wellbutrin to function.

If you're manic and psychotic, though, I would think your tolerance for sedatives would be higher (?). I mean, makes sense, intuitively. I hope you can work with your doctor to taper off some of the sedatives over time, as you calm down and reach the magical state of full on lucidity.

Do you plan on taking two major tranquilizers long term? Have you had any muscle stiffness, tremor, tics, etc.? I knew somebody on Navane and a new tranquilizer (maybe Saphris?) once, and she said the combination was fairly tolerable.

Hope everything works out for you.
