I'm a musician and a music lover, and I think one reason this is the case is that music profoundly affects my moods and emotions. I'm very sensitive.

Although I have a degree in music, I've never studied music therapy. I know virtually nothing about it. But I know how to use music as a drug for myself, for good or for bad. There is music that can trigger depression or mania for me. I have to been very careful with that.

Today, my mood has been very chaotic. I have felt very keyed up to an uncomfortable level...racing, obsessive thoughts, a musical ear worm...unfocused. Then it occurred to me to listen to one of the songs that always brings me down, into a melancholy if listen to it too much, too deeply. At least for the moment it has brought me relief. For me, today that was the theme from the movie "Somewhere in Time". It's a dangerous song for me, so I have to be careful, but it gave me relief for the time being.

There are many songs and artists or whole albums that I use like this.

What's your music medicine?

Bad Religion got me through college and to this day helps me focus and get work done. I'm not normally into punk rock, but whenever I need to get things done it's my fuel.

My favorite manic music is Faure's In Paradisum. Gotta be sung with boys though. I wrote a post in my blog to this recording while manic actually.

I've sung Faure's Requiem many times as the baritone soloist and in the choir. That's what Paradisum is from. You should listen to the whole thing. It will change your world. I think I'll listen to it on the way home.

I'm listening to Debussy's Reverie right now. It's getting a lot of play on the HBO's Westworld. I fell in love with my wife listening to that music. I'm getting the feeeeeeels.

I've been listening to the music/bands since I was an adolescent. It's music I can relate to and helps calm me down or feel better, or whatever I want to feel at that time.

The Smiths and Morrissey`s solo work are musical medicine.Yes lots of it can be sad but I think that actually helps me.It makes me feel less alone in my feelings of depression.I love a lot of other music too but I mostly like alternative and punk music.

OMG - I am obsessed with music on a good day. It is so true how it effects your mood, I can feel my mood change within the first few beats. What music is playing in my house is almost always so carefully chosen based on the mood I am in or want to be in. Everyday I am different but when stable I am more relaxed about my choice. When in an episode I am a woman obsessed and so much thought goes into each song, even their order.

Recently I was manic and VERY OBSESSED WITH MUSIC. It drove my parents nuts and became incredibly selfish, believing everyone around me had the same level of passion for 'that' song that I did. Now I am stable I am more relaxed, even random about what I listen to. Right now I am listening to Eminem - The Marshal Mathers LP2, mostly for 'Beautiful Pain'. That song means a lot to me.

Reaggeton makes me go hypo. To calm down I have two songs of the Dresden Dolls: Sing and The Kill. I also listen to TripHop to calm down or to something like Angus and Julia Stone. But I also know how to bring myself up with music. A song I link to bipolar is "Hang On" by Plumb. Even though it is not really my kind of Genre I really like it.

"Knocking On Heaven's Door" or "Forever Young" (Dylan) and "Imagine" (Lennon).

"Don't Stop Me Now" (Queen) during mania, sometimes "Perfect Day" (Reed).

Jazz and classical music (mostly Beethoven) for anxiety.

I had been listening to a track on YouTube but I have a CD at home. I think I'll listen to the whole thing again. Thanks!

I have a full iPod of all of my favorite CDs. Right now I'm listening to Johnny Cashes last one. More rock than country.
I love everything from classic rock to classical music. Used to go out with musicians before getting married. I Eml with a guitarist from Australia.

How does the Johnny Cash album affect your mood?

I listen to all kinds of music. However, I find it hard to concentrate so I don't have it on much. I have a pretty optimistic playlist that I enjoy.
