Today my pdoc put me on Topomax twice a day, not sure of doses yet. Any side-effects to be careful of? I agreed as he told me it was weight neutral; is this true?

Other changes are a massive reduction in Benzo's. Clonazepam has been stopped (was 6mg a day) and I am on Lorazepam PRN. I am happy about this as I was worried I was on too much.

Ability is to stay at 20mg but my emergency plan, for when I have severe SI, is to have 10mg more Ability, a beta-blocker, Lorazepam and if I am still out of control I am to have a Clorpixal Acuphase Injection to shut me right down to keep me safe and avoid lock-up. Hopefully, it won't get to that but I have been really bad lately.

just my opinion...to go from 6mg of kklonipin to none is a crisis waiting to happen!!!!!
You need to taper off that stuff!!!!!!!

Thanks. I am taking Lorazepam PRN to get me through the taper. I can take up to 8mg but will aim for much less.

Topomax is on my " no thank you list" so many people I know that has taken it called it "dopomax "

Lithium dropped my IQ big time so I won't take any that have that semi common side effect.

I hope your able to transision into your new regimen. You have struggled long long enough.

You deserve a good long stretch of stability.

Oh, no! Dopamax...and I thought it was a bonus that I did't gain weight. It may not happen to me but if it does it will be a deal breaker to me.

Had the injection before. It makes speech near impossible for about 48 hours and will of course render me written-speechless. So, if I go silent, that is why. Feeling amped up, prob lack of Benzos. Will have some in an hour. Have friends coming so hopefully their company will stop me going too crazy tonight. Been very up all day but tend to crash at night.

Scared I will lose it and get the injection. Feel the madness rising.. very weird feeling.

I took Topamax for ten years. I didn't gain any weight on it, but other mood stabilizers have been more effective for me.... specifically Geodon.

I've been on Topamax for 9 months. No bad side effects. Does not make me dopey.

I take mine at night, because it made me dopey. But other than that, I like it.

The brain fog side effect of topomax went away fairly quickly. I've been on it several years now.

I tried it for pain (didn't help) and had the 'Dopamax' effect, it made me stupid. The upside was lack of appetite so I lost a little weight on it. Still, maybe the stupid-part goes away with time, I only took it for about a month.
Thanks for this!

I was on it for migraines and weight control. It didn't do much for weight for me but it did stop the headaches. I was taken off because it did affect my cognitive abilities a bit.

never taken it. My understanding is that the data for its use in mood disorders isn't very strong.
